Original Species: Grand Pelican
The Grand Pelican is a large sea bird native to the coastal regions of Vogelheim. On a day-to-day basis, this predator hunts for fish and squid that inhabit coastal waters. However, its size and aggressive disposition often push it to hunt for different prey, which includes smaller birds. Pelicans found on the eastern coast have been seen raiding Quabbick colonies, and usually decimating entire flocks.
Further south, the Grand Pelican territories overlap with those of the Dire Pelicans (their larger and more formidable cousins). The two species have a generations-long blood feud; they compete for resources and even raid each other's nests to kill and eat chicks.
So far, researchers have proven to be too big to get eaten by these birds. However, considering their temperament and feeding habits, they could pose a serious threat to unattended children.
(note: There are no human settlements on the Vogelheim continent. The threat to children is minimal at best, outside of organized tour groups)
