It's a chilly, damp and rainy afternoon so I thought I bring out the "Big Boy" for a cleaning and a few wet plates this afternoon.
"Eastman View #2 Improved" an early 8x10 by the Kodak company. The lens is a projection petzval that renders lovely images on wet plate if you can get the light and focus correct. I've nicknamed the lens 'Satan". It has a custom built wet plate back that allows me to use 8x10, whole plate (8.5x 6.5) or 5x7. The coke can is there for reference.

Yeah, It doesn't travel much. Heavy and kind of delicate. I pretty much just use it in the 'Studio' (my basement). I have a Raja 8x10 that's a clone of the Deardorff that I use if I'm feeling ambitious enough to do 8x10 in the field. The Raja is really a piece of crap but it gets the job done and I wouldn't be too upset if it were to be broken or stolen.
I spoke to a friend about a strobe setup for wet plates and a fast lens. I got a 2405 which we figured would just barely do it with the 35 degree reflectors. But 4800, wow, 2400 is already enough that you can feel it :)
I'm grateful I don't need so much, I shoot film and never plates, but I run up against 2400 between the modifiers, filters, and ratios pretty often.
