Banksverse Character Profile: Sears Burnblaze
“Tonight on Culture Weekly, our reporter Sandra Purrson interviews the runner up of last year’s World Dance Competition, Sears Burnblaze! Sandra, we take it to you!”
*Camera feed cuts to a Purugly in a nice dress.*
“Thank you, Dale!”
*Footage shifts to an Alolan Marowak dancing on a stage.*
“A humble stockman at the Safari Zone in Fuschia City, Sears captured the hearts of millions with his dancing, but even that could not overcome the sheer talent the Incineroar trainer Nemona and her Quaquaval starter and partner Inigo had in what is now known as “Dance Battling”!”
*Another shift, to focus on the Marowak shaking hands with a feral, non-anthro female Incineroar standing beside a Quaquaval.*
“The Alolan Marowak was gracious and congratulated his opponents then, but does he still agree with the results today? We’re gonna find out.”
*Camera feed cuts back to Sandra, sitting opposite the Alolan Marowak.*
“So… you’re Sears Burnblaze, right? 6’4’’, 689 pounds, 34 years old?”
“Yep! Very astute, Miss Purrson! I’m betting you didn’t have me up here just to explain my physical features, though! Ask me the tough questions!”
“Straight to the action, I see! Tell me, what inspired you to audition for the World Dancer Championships?”
“My roommates and workmates, Spike and Slash. When I first moved in with them, I was worried they’d disapprove of my dancing, since I’d never done it in front of non-family members before. So I practiced in the dead of night. One night, as I’m dancing, I see Slash in his PJ’s staring at me. I turn, expecting him to laugh, but he’s in awe.” “Where did you learn to dance like that?” He says to me. I explain, and he listens, in rapture. Then he says “Dude, why didn’t you tell us you like dancing?” I explain my fears, and he nods. He says “I understand. You don’t have to worry. We’re cool.” And they were.”
“What wonderful people your flatmates are! But how does that lead you to your time on the show?”
“Well one day we’re watchin’ TV in the break room, and we see the commercial for the show. And Spike’s like “Awesome, bro, you should audition! So I do, and they put me in the show!”
“Very good! What of Nemona and her partner? Do you still think they deserved the win?”
“Yes I do! The young Fire Type’s a good Trainer from what I’ve heard, and she and that bird practically invented Dance Battling back in Paldea. When they went onstage, I have to confess I knew instantly I wasn’t gonna win. Their friends, including a nice young human guy who made the best sandwiches I’ve ever had along with a big Pokémon I think they call a Koraidon, sat next to my mates, and we talked a bit after the championships and exchanged Rotom Phone numbers. So that was good.”
“I see. And you’re satisfied with your performance?”
“Indeed! I’m just happy to be back doing my job with my friends. Spotlight was nice while it lasted, but there’s no place like home.”
“True, true. We’re almost out of time, any words for would be prospective dancers?”
“Yeah, practice and you’ll be as good as Nemona and myself!”
“And there you have it folks! This is Sandra with Sears Burnblaze. Back to you, Dale!”
