In the volcanic depths of The Serpent’s Diadem, all is still. Bathed in the golden glow of magma-veined stone, nothing but ivory remains. Not a scale. Not a drop of blood. Nothing. All that remains of the Ashborne Calamity's terror is the lingering shadow cast by his bony corpse. Embedded within the great dragon's skull, perfected metal pulsates with a sickly sheen. From the carved runes upon its deadly edge, the smell of Wyrmsrot persists. A legendary toxin so strong, it exists purely as a bane to the proud serpents that roam Elyrion. So rare, however, many doubted its existence. Some believed it to be a mere fable made by mortals who loathed the greedy drake's power. A tale made to terrify hatchlings and keep even the most haughty of dragons on edge. Or, so they'd hoped.
Here, the bones of a great Red King serve as proof for a myth arrogantly ignored.
Some could say he deserved it. Asdraveil was like all others who came before him in Varinthos' monarchy of Reds— a cruel embodiment of greed, corruption, and boundless power. A 'true red dragon', as others would say. Undoubtedly, however, such hatred manifesting as fatal consequence was inevitable. It was just... unfortunate that it would rear its head now, during his dominion.
With generations of loathing fueling every strike, the final struck true. And with the wyrmsrot eating away at scale and flesh alike, soon there would be nothing left but sickly white bones that told of this grim tragedy.
Not all is lost for the cruel sovereignty of Varinthos' Red Monarchs, however. Even amidst his battle of life and death, the tyrannical king protected the one treasure he held dearest. His legacy would not end here.
Crowned in a swirl of fire and bloodied ash, a sole egg remains preciously nestled within gold. Perhaps it's ironic, no? A harmless egg, somehow unscathed, and yet, one of the most powerful kings of Varinthos left as nothing but bones... Indeed, maybe it's no wonder that some called Aeris' birth a miracle of the Gods themselves; a hatchling blessed by the divine.
Nonetheless, this was the dawn of the new queen herself— Aeris, the Gilded Ruin.

Ahhh first lore piece for Aeris! I absolutely LOVE how this turned out, so so much. Grimness aside from what it depicts, it overall just looks so pretty, and the concept of it is so cool to me. It's funny because the artist mentioned they weren't necessarily known for their backgrounds, but I digress... do you see how utterly beautiful this is? Ugh, I love it! It's funny because I technically got this done before I buckled down and typed out Aeris' information in full LOL. So I'm mildly happy and surprised so many pieces of it match what I inevitably decided to come up with for Miss Red. While you can read like... the actual story/tidbits in her written lore on my Toyhouse (shameless, utterly shameless, plug here lmao), this piece otherwise depicts the death of her father. A very big, very strong red dragon who was murdered. Now, while still definitely sad, these red dragons are highkey terrible, so it makes sense LOL. They brought prosperity to otherwise broken lands, yes, but... They are full-on tyrants. If it wasn't him, it would've been someone down the line eventually.
The sword/dagger itself is made from some pretty gnarly metal that's also ultra hard to get ahold of— same for the toxin itself. I imagine this murder was something planned for literal generations because of how long it'd take to procure such items. A cool sort of nod at the sheer difference in lifespans between dragons in this setting vs humanoids. Nonetheless, though, the toxin literally... is like giga acid. I'd need to remember how exactly I described it lol, but... yes. In the span of minutes, poor drago dad was left as nothing but bones. There's a bit more nuance to it that makes this event a bit more peculiar/once-in-a-lifetime as to not stir the question of 'okay, so why doesn't everyone just do this and go smite them'. It's really not that simple, unfortunately. Or, I guess, fortunately for Aeris. But! This was such a terrible and unheard of event that it cemented Aeris as being blessed by the Gods/Tiamat by those around her. Because seriously, 'how tf did you live' LOL.
I also want to get some art/lore pieces depicting a bit more of this, as well as a unique feature of Aeris (within her setting) that was possibly born as a side effect from this encounter, but... they'll be expensive LOL. So likely not soon, but! Eventually.
YAP ASIDE THOUGH, absolutely love this piece. A phenomenal first lore piece for Aeris. <3
