A few days later she was in the main hall of the church, kneeling on the stage by the alter, late at night. This was her favorite time to pray, specially if she couldn’t sleep. The quiet evening with just the moonlight filling the room made such a calm environment and the silence made it as if could hear the very breath of the building and was almost like could hear a reply as prayed. Doing her nightly prayers here always calmed her and she found it easier to sleep afterwards if was having trouble with it.
It was usually easy to hear if anyone entered, but this night she was startled as heard someone step up into the platform of the alter. She looked over to see Father Shadow standing beside the alter and lightly wave at her with a smile as Maria turned to look at him.
“F-father Shadow” she said as shot up onto her feet.
“Evening. You seem to have been going out of your way to avoid me. Did I insult you in some way?” Shadow said as stood by.
Maria quickly grabbed his hand “No. Nothing of the sort! I have nothing but respect for you and admire everything you do with your work. I’m sorry you felt that way. It was solely my own fault for my behavior, but I never meant to make you feel you had done anything wrong to me” she proclaimed in a worried state, ashamed at herself for not even thinking about how her actions recently might have effected him.
Shadow’s ear perked up a moment as she took his hand. Confirming his suspicions now with the touch.
