Kyrlen has instinctively tracked her young daughter, Jen, to the outskirts of the ruined town, terrified of what she may find following the calamitous collapse of several buildings. Jen's trail runs cold at the epicenter of the destruction and all signs point to a horrible end. Beset by trauma upon trauma, the mother final snaps. Her descent begins.

This scene was hard to write and a lot harder to paint, but it's been stuck in my head and needed release. The character of Kyrlen is an amalgamation of my first love interest and Sarah Connor (of Terminator lore). Soft and maternal, but with a dark and pseudo-violent streak. The loss of her daughter unlocks the transformation needed to move the story.
