Just something I wanted in my gallery for context to myself as a person; I prefer making personal pieces like this rather than listing everything I believe in on my profile bio or something.
I label myself as transfem on my bio most places, but this is really only for ‘political’ purposes. I’m male, intersex, alternative, and present very ‘metrosexual’ as you would call it in the 2000’s; I just like looking nice and I take care of myself, but where I live this apparently equates to “trans woman”, which makes me experience absurd homophobia and misandry.
…No one likes it when I describe it as that, so I have to talk about it as “transmisogyny” to get the point across, but misandry is what it really is — no one is actually mistreating me as a woman, I am being mistreated for being a man who is seen as a predator for being nonconforming and flamboyant. I’m especially discriminated systemically for being a mentally ill man as I’ve been navigating social services for mental health, housing, and other support. All my life I’ve been treated as dangerous for my masculinity while being schizophrenic.
You may think “That’s not misandry that’s just ableism and homophobia!” …but it’s all rooted in bias against my masculinity, so, I don’t want to hear it.
With that said, I believe transmisogyny is real and that women who identify as trans can be mistreated while being perceived as women…my point is I don’t think it is progressive of people to conflate experiences like mine with transmisogyny, and yet people hate it when I’m honest about it so I have to play along with this stupid game that makes me feel like shit about myself.
Despite being gay and having alternative tastes in my fashion and art, I’m very traditional and I enjoy male social roles in order to feel fulfilled while masking my ASPD — think of Ennis from Brokeback Mountain, or Patrick Bateman — it is really degrading having to define myself as something I’m not in order to experience community and be listened to.
Thanks for reading.
