This time focusing on the pit crew, specifically Riven, tech and maintenance lead on the airweave team (One of the many lightwing teams sponsored by Icarus)
The high tech equipment propelling lightwings to near faster than light speeds is expertly designed. But it's also designed to pump as much propulsion into as small a frame as possible, which can lead to all manner of side effects. If equipment fails on the track, it can mean death. So, to mitigate this risk, pit stops are placed along the track to quickly fix, patch or otherwise replace faulty equipment. Many deaths have come from arrogant lightwings thinking they don't need to stop on their last lap.

i just looked up how fast light actually moves and uh, my silly brain may have thought it was a lot slower. the race would be over in a second or two hahah!
