My mother is an elementary school librarian. Somewhere in the late nineties the book filing system changed from analog/paper to digital/electronic. For about ten or so years of my life I've used obsolete filing cards from the old library book rolodexes as note cards. I think maybe we ran out of them at my house a year ago? They have a very distinct shape, color and style of text marking. I never really thought much of them, but the other day I was in the library here at MICA and the librarian handed me one when I asked to write something down. It's one of those objects that is/was ubiquitous in my life, so I never gave it any special attention, but now I understand the rarity and novelty of them much better. I wish we never threw them out!
Anyway, the upper drawing reminded me.

Your anecdote reminds me that my drawing contains a technical inaccuracy; I forgot that cards could not be removed from the drawers under normal use (even through I show him doing so and even included the bar that ran through the cards). I enjoyed your story- I get that nostalgic feeling whenever I get an airplane boarding pass at the airport instead of my usual web check-in home-printed version. Maybe someday I'll be nostalgic for paper of any kind!
