Continuing the series of posts about my upcoming book, Savage Frequency, let's talk about the first main protagonist of the story: Jack Savage.
Jack is a 25-year-old lynx who works as an analyst at a global espionage agency. He's an awkward guy with social difficulties, especially with girls like Claire Warren. Despite this, he's always been a good analyst, where his "weapon" at the beginning is his brain. He knows how to hack systems, read patterns and has a photographic memory. In addition, he's laid-back, socially awkward and eager to please others, frequently making nervous jokes and small acts of kindness.
He's also very shy and a bit naive, but he's a very kind and loving boy, sacrificing his own happiness for the sake of those he loves. He's also a very skilled skateboarder, so much so that he won a world skateboarding championship held in his hometown. However, at age 14 he was diagnosed with osteosarcoma, a cancerous bone tumor. It usually appears in areas where bones grow faster and during the growth phase. It is more common in teenagers and young adults and often grows rapidly.
The tumor preferentially occurs in the metaphysis of long tubular bones, as this is where bones grow the most. Most cases occur in the knees. In other words, Jack was screwed during his adolescence... The standard treatment followed a "sandwich" protocol, beginning and ending with chemotherapy, with surgery in between, lasting about 6 to 12 months. As a consequence, he had to have his leg amputated and has a prosthesis in its place. His battle against cancer was anything but easy, it was hell for that lynx.
By a miracle, he managed to recover from the cancer and his life returned to normal, although he had to adapt to the new reality. Many consider him disabled, but the prosthesis on his leg is not an impediment, but rather a detail that makes him have to be more creative in his fights, using the environment to his advantage. And before you ask, yeah, my character's name is indeed a tribute to Jack Savage from one of the discarded versions of Zootopia.
Since this character was discarded by Disney and the name "Jack Savage" isn't a trademark that prevents its use in literature, it serves as a beautiful homage. I believe that in the world of Zootopia fans, using the name Jack Savage is almost a "seal of quality" that the author knows the origins of the work in depth. Furthermore, Jack was also inspired by Pawbert from Zootopia 2, that is, at least his physical appearance and some personality traits. I was also inspired by Peter Parker from Sam Raimi's Spider-Man trilogy in terms of clothing and some personality traits.
After creating this character, I immediately remembered that my best friend, NOTG, was accepting commissions. I didn't waste any time and paid him to draw Jack. Because of the very complex pose, accessories and the prosthetic leg of this character, it took my friend a while to finish drawing my OC, haha!
And about the art, it's spectacular! I absolutely loved how you drew my new furry character, it's amazing 🤩 You managed to capture his essence!
Look at this lynx, he really seems like a hardcore skater who is very kind and loving, but at the same time has the same personality as Peter Parker (Tobey Maguire) and some traits of Pawbert Lynxley's personality 💝 I also loved his prosthetic leg, it's very realistic since we don't yet have 100% robotic prosthetics like in science fiction movies, lol.
Besides that, I loved the painting, the shading, the lighting, all the details... Everything is perfect! Thank you so much for drawing the first protagonist I created who has had cancer! This is definitely one of the best drawings you've ever done for me 💗✨💝🌟💕 If you want to see more incredible art made by my best friend, click on the links below:

Oh yeah, there's one detail I forgot to mention about this drawing: Jack isn't wearing black, because he's not a rocker, metalhead, goth or even an emo to only wear black clothes, right? lmfao
Actually, the long sleeves of his gray vest and his pants are a very dark olive green. His sneakers are ebony and military green, which are very dark colors that resemble gray and black, respectively. In other words, it's all green lol. That is, except for his vest and shirt, which are gray and yellow, respectively. Basically, NOTG painted some parts of my character's clothes to reference Pawbert Lynxley, XD
This art and the art of the second main protagonist of my story (Claire) were my last commissions. That's right, I'm not going to pay commissions to artists anymore for an indefinite period. It won't be forever, but it will be a long time before I commission artists again. The issue isn't just about saving money, there's another one: I want to stop spending money solely on drawings for now, you know. I want to spend it on other things, after all, life isn't just about art, right? lol.
I've already had this conversation with my brother, who I'm very close to, and really, spending your hard-earned money only on drawings isn't a very good idea because you could spend that money on many other things, whether it's silly things like fast food and movie tickets or even very important things like new clothes, new sneakers and so on. After a long time, I finally realized that I only knew how to spend on art because I love art made by incredible artists I've met, like NOTG for example. I like art and I love to draw, but it's time to take a break from that and spend on other things because life isn't just about art.
