New Year, New Sona Design! Had this one cooking up for quite a while now, if I'm being honest maybe even since October of last year, all because of the Morgana cosplay from his appearance in Persona 5 Dancing, the Rhythm game spinoff. I've actually had more or less brainrot over Mona himself since late 2023. As a result of which, I've had my previous sona drawn with a kigu based on Mona two years ago. He used to be my favourite scrimblo for quite some time. I did have another sona based on the Ori franchise after Kryth, but i unfortunately didn't get to give them the same treatment.
Then came July 2025, where I got a new dragon sona for myself, with the help of Alphie in some aspects of the design itself. Pretty drastic difference from their very first appearance to their current appearance, wouldn't you agree? A lot of stuff has been altered, and I think I'm pretty happy with the results that you see here. Long hair, two pairs of arms, a tail that's twice as large as you? I genuinely think this is the best non-pokemon sona that I've thought of in the long run. There aren't many differences compared to the 2.0 iteration of the character, but that one didn't have a proper ref sheet, so this one would have to do.
The ref sheet was drawn by Charingo on Bluesky, you can check out the original upload of the artwork here. Please be sure to commission Charingo if you want to get something cool, or just follow her Bluesky account to see what it's cooking! They do really awesome stuff, I mean it.
So, what's exactly different from the very first version in that case?
- The hair is much longer, just shy about their full height. Small bits in the hair can change colour based on the current accent colour Traffic is currently set in. Other than looking very sleek and majestic, this doesn't really do much. The brighter majority of the hair is also lightly tinted with the current accent colour, so that's neat!
- A plain white shirt with a small red scarf. They previously had a shirt based on an actual traffic light, and while it did look adorable at first, I ended up not liking it that much and opted for a plain white shirt instead. May seem a bit boring, but I think it balances out the colours a bit here and there. Also, gave them a red scarf cause why not.
- The bead on their tail broke and set free their childhood friend, Roady - the tailmaw that's twice as long as Traffic is tall, and let me tell you, it's VERY long. Roady is also a bit on the hungrier side, and it's up to Traffic to keep it in check. It was sealed for a reason, but Traffic's longing for a friend after Roady's sealing made them realize just how much they miss it.
- Gave them a crown and spiked bracelets. For this iteration, I wanted to incorporate some of the kingly, royal attitude to them. A particular racing game and two of its playable characters (who are also the 2nd and 3rd most used chars of mine) gave me the idea that it'd be fun to try and make Traffic some kind of royalty. In my opinion, it fits pretty well, but we'll have to see soon whether the antics stick around.
If you've managed to read through this wall of text, thank you very much! If you have any questions regarding Traffic, Roady or even both - please don't hesitate to ask them! I'll be sure to give an answer to the best of my ability.
