A couple weeks later, Analie was vacuuming the floor of an empty room. Then she got a text message.
“Analie, there’s two girls at the door, looking for you.” It was from Jessica.
Analie wasted no time and left the empty apartment she was preparing, then dashed up the stairs. Outside her door to the penthouse stood Copeland and a teal-haired dog out in the hallway, and Analie’s crippled roommate in the doorway.
Analie just paused for a bit in the hallway, then walked closer to the situation as the other girls looked at her.
“Ana, this is my adopted sister, Cynder.” Copeland said as she looked between Analie and Jessica, “She’s been looking for a safe place to stay and I recommended you.”
Cynder was pretty quiet, adjusting the straps of her bags, looking more at Analie, her tail started to wag.
Analie looked between them, then smiled at Jessica and bowed to her.
“No problem, Analie.” Jessica smiled, “I’ll leave it to you.” Then the mare wheeled back and closed the door.
Analie then held out her phone, a message on it. “Why did you bring her up here? New residents wait at the lobby, so I can lead them to the optional apartments.”
“I wanted to keep her safe.” Copeland said, “If my identity being out there means the villains come right for my family, I want them all as safe as possible.”
Analie crossed her arms as she held her phone out, “Your brother is not moving here too.”
“Oh he’ll be fine. He can’t die, and my dad taught both of us about living on the run and hiding.” Copeland then patted Cynder’s shoulder, “But she might be the most vulnerable in our family. I don’t want her just in some apartment where someone could get to her before you do…”
Analie’s eyes narrowed.
“...I want her absolutely safe.” Copeland narrowed back, “Thought you understood that.”
“Isn’t that a bit harsh, Copeland.” Cynder asked, “You really shouldn’t pick at that wound.”
Analie turned from Copeland to Cynder, looking a bit surprised.
“Well, I read her mind and know that you blame yourself for…” Cynder’s sentence trailed off as she looked at Analie, turning surprised. “Wait, how are you thinking in only ones and zeroes?”
Analie turned back to Copeland and nodded.
“I’m glad you get it now.” Copeland smiled relieved, “Thanks again for doing this. She’ll try to make use of herself.”
“Should I, uh…” Cynder smiled nervously, “Break the news to Jessica about the new roommate?”
The door opened, the mute girl leading the bright-haired dog into the penthouse, and soon after, a mare came in from the kitchen, in a wheelchair. She looked to Analie with a smile, but then she looked to Cynder and Copeland.
“Copeland, It’s good to see you.” Jessica smile, “So who’s this? Another friend?”
Analie shook her head
“Oh?” Jessica’s smile faded fast, “So, what’s going on?”
“Jess, it may be hard to believe, but this is my sister.” Copeland patted Cynder’s shoulder, “And… she’s moving out of the house and needs somewhere to stay while she finds an apartment.”
“So, she’s going to be moving here?” Jessica asked, her smile returning. She gripped her wheelchair breaks.
Analie nodded, but Cynder stepped up, “I hope that’s alright.”
Not much more came from Cynder. Before more could be said, Jessica held used her arms to launch herself out of the wheelchair and hugged onto Cynder. The dog yelped, not ready for this weight or action at all, and the two were about to fall to the ground. Analie and Copeland stepped in before either hit the ground, the landlady resting the crippled mare back in her wheelchair.
“What was that?” Cynder asked, “Do you do that to everyone?”
“Yes.” Copeland said, “She loves to hug people.”
“It’s a bit childish, but it’s how I love to show kindness.” Jessica said, “Especially to my new roommate.”
Cynder looked at her with concern, but then started to smile, “Thanks… Just don’t do that again. Let me kneel down to you.”
“Awww, but it’s fun.”
“You two are going to get along real well.” Copeland rolled her eyes, “Just don’t have Analie kick you out.”
Analie rested her hands on her hip, and shook her head as she watched these two got to know one another.
