Receiving the President's Medal (Furmula 1) (+Story)
2025 was off to a good start. Despite only finishing 4th in the opening race, loosing out to his team mate and pattern Gunnar Thorvaldsson for a spot on the podium and the two African drivers on the grid at their home continent's race at Kyalami, Prince Avogadro won the following race at Melbourne to propel him to the top of the driver's championship where he remained all the way up to San Marino where Gunnar had bested him, taking a win there and the Portuguese GP prior. Only 4 points split the Cuzata couple but even as lovers the two still had a rivalry between them; and with Conda Rising Sun's Ordagova Nevarol hot on their tail, they couldn't afford to lift off the accelerator.
Having won in Oz, got three podiums thereafter, three further 4th place finishes and a more recent 6th and 5th, the reigning world champion fought back.
Salomé Montés was fastest in Austria's FP3 and went on to take a dominant pole, leading all three parts of qualifying. Her team mate, Da Costa, was strong but the Prince split the pair lining up on the front row at the foot of the Styrian Alps with Gunnar Thorvaldsson in the other Cuzata behind in 4th. Conda Rising Sun Racing lined up in 5th and 6th.
Avogadro's launch was good but couldn't pass the Mexican lynx at turn one, instead continuing the fight up the hill into the tight turn 3 where they go side-by-side. Still not enough to complete the move, Purrcedes power was put against Reynault's as they dragged themselves down into turn 4. Taking the inside line, the prince broke first, conceding the place back to the lynx, surviving for now and fight another lap.
After a great start, Rising Sun's Trey Goodwin climbed up into 3rd, now chasing down the leading pair, keeping his tyres alive as Avogadro struggled in the dirty air of Montés; a move came soon after as the bird conceded to the Australian dingo, looking to maximise his own race. Pushing hard to keep the lead, Montés tyres were gone and fell victim to Goodwin's better rubber that he had conserved earlier on. Now in the lead, Cuzata decide to pull a undercut, putting Prince Avogadro first and try and get him out and catch the dingo or lynx before he can react.
It worked.
With the softs finally dead, Ventus pull the pin on Montés, pulling her in to strap on the hards looking to one stop at the Austrian GP, but the prince was pushing and overtook her as she was she was exiting the pitlane on cold rubber. Goodwin responded quickly, coming into the pits and strapping on the mediums too. He fell behind the pair but had the pace to catch up, quickly closing onto the back of the lynx.
After a torrid start to his rookie season, Stripez Honeysuckle was trying to get the most out of his debut season and learn as much as he can; unfortunately his race engineer still had a lot to learn too; as he came out of the pits he wasn't informed of the battle he would find himself in at pit exit. He saw Montés pass him around turn 1 but didn't realise the determined Goodwin behind attempting to make a move; this lost the dingo time, and he remained in third, still staring at the Ventus' gearbox.
Tyre wear was high and teams were discussing a second stop. Cuzata eventually pulled the pin on Avogadro, and on the same lap Goodwin was called in; the pair strapping on one more set of boots to try and secure them the podium and not risk a late tyre failure. Salomé Montés stayed out on the hard rubber, inheriting the lead, but now slow and threatened by the two behind her coming, looking to rob her from he first win in eight months.
Goodwin gambled on softs, switching on earlier and taking him past the prince in the opening laps of the last stint, but Avogadro's final set of mediums kept him close and eventually past the Australian as they neared the worn race leader. She didn't stand much of a chance on the final lap and Prince Avogadro took the chequered flag. A combination of not enough laps and no more pace on the softs conceded Goodwin to third, still three places higher than were he qualified.
This was Avogadro's second win of the season, and Cuzata's third win in a row equalling Fentech's late 2019 charge. Prince Avogadro returned back to the top of the championship, now 20 points clear of his team mate as they head into his home race, hopeful.

Despite Avogadro having 7 of these medals at this point, this picture is special in another sense beyond the fourth-wall. JWolfman had been working hard behind the scenes up to 2023 leading FurmulaOne as it's head commissioner, simulating all of the races, managing the teams and the upgrades. He did an extraordinary job for all those years but decided to step down at the end of 2023, handing over the role to myself for 2024 and onwards, where previously I had been simulating Furmula 3, and even assisting with Furmula 2 and the Free-practice sessions before that.
This picture has been long overdue, as it is based on the adorable interaction between Lando Norris and former F1 CEO Bernie Ecclestone at the 2025 Austrian GP where Ecclestone was tasked in awarding Norris with the "President's Medal" (awarded to the race winner since 2022's Abu Dhabi GP) but was too short for the task, requiring Lando to step off the podium to receive it. The moment I saw this interaction I immediately saw Avogadro and Wolfman in that situation, but not for the sake of just immortalising this scene, but instead symbolising the transfer of responsibilities from JWolfman to myself within the FurmulaOne server.
Thank you JWolfman for all you've done. Without you, the server and community you've built wouldn't exist today. So many stories wouldn't exist. So much artwork wouldn't have been made. So many friendships in and outside this universe wouldn't of happened. You've contributed so much to all of us within FurmulaOne and around it, so this artwork is dedicated to you. Thank you so much!
