Photography - 2002 F150 MN Winter - Kodak X45
An old building I used to work in while in college had a massive parking lot where all the snow would be pushed near the loading dock where I parked. At the time I drove a 2002 F150 and was interested in trying out various film cameras at the time. This photo was taken on a day before my shift in building maintenance at that college on a day where classes were cancelled due to the snowstorm. I had a Kodak Instamatic X45 in my bag with me and snapped this photo. Since the Kodak Instamatic takes 126 cartridge film that was no longer produced in early 2018 when this photo was taken, I refilled an old cartridge using 135 Kodak Color Plus 200 film. 126 film has an index hole at each frame, similar to how 110 film works and has a square frame. When using 125 film this results in the sprocket holes being exposed and having the image appear in them as well. I find this effect interesting, so I have always left it in.
These consumer grade Instamatic cameras have a unique image quality to them, the basic lenses and extremely basic automatic exposure control creates an effect that feels like you are looking back much further in time, coupled with the blue color cast caused by c41 chemistry losing its effectiveness with age, it makes the winter feel more dreamlike. Looking back at some of these photos has also recaptured an interest in liminal spaces that I was capturing.
I opted to share some of these photos that are interesting from my collection after talking with
Doggedly about film photography and realizing that I haven't shared many of my photos.
