Having been launched in 1942 originally for the Great Lakes Engineering Works in Ecorse, MI, SS Alpena (or SS Leon Fraser at the time) remains as one of the oldest operating vessels ever known on the Great Lakes. She also remains as the last all steam driven freighter still in service at 84 years old. Now come to the end of the shipping season she's seen her laid up in Cleveland, OH for the rest of the winter till the season opens up again later this year.
