The Split is a term I've coined for a form/state that Matty can go into when he's in emotional distress. The Split was bestowed onto Matty by the dark wolf Shaedus, a being that sensed the immense negative emotion in the young gryphon and brought it to the forefront, so he could face his inner demons.

It's not a separate personality. It's not a facade. The Split is Matty's "true self," his deepest, darkest thoughts and emotions manifested.

It's also a representation of my darker half: the depressed, anxious, nihilistic and rage-filled side of me that I don't want others to see. It's pretty much a reflection of my mental health. The name "Split" references how stark of a contrast this side of myself is to how I actually am, and it also references a traumatic event (without disclosing, it's the incident that made me disappear for two years) that happened to me that split my life in two.

It's the best representation I have that I can use to show people how I interpret my issues. It's a lot to deal with, but thankfully the people in my life know how I feel and they have my back.

Just thought I'd share this with y'all. Sorry it's a bit of a downer compared to the rest of my art. ^^;
