Let's Start the Show!
"Name’s Slight, Slight of Hand! If you haven’t heard of me yet, you’ll remember it well soon enough. For years I’ve traveled across the land stealing almost as many hearts as I have treasure. If you’re reaching for your pockets to make sure your valuables are still there, don’t worry. Stealing from the audience is just bad show! My targets tend to be people who think themselves more, how should we say, untouchable. I’m talking the rich, the royal, the crime lords who think they’re safe in the shadows. Anyone whose gotten ahead through wicked or underhanded means should expect a visit from me soon enough.
Lately, some of our friendly neighborhood mobsters have grown a lot more bold. Seems you can’t go a day without seeing a story of someone getting mugged, some mom and pop shop shaken down for protection, or someone getting killed in a robbery-gone-wrong. It’s safe to say that “honor among thieves” is an idea that never crossed their minds. Unfortunately for them, I’ve been harboring something of a grudge. Seeing your found family murdered by thugs isn’t exactly something you forgive and forget.
You might be wondering what my angle is. It’s simple; find my own fortune, get my name written in legends, and bring down the crime families keeping the kingdom under their heel. Oh, and put on a show in the process. The real question is if I’ll ride off into the sunset or go out in a fiery grand finale. Let’s hope for the former!"
Author's Notes
-Slight is a character I made for a Dungeons and Dragons game with some friends. In-game, we re-flavored the Tabaxi stats to work for raccoon-folk. He is basically what happened after I played too much Dishonored, Persona, and the Sly Cooper trilogy before we started the campaign. Also Zorro. Zorro is just plain cool.
-I originally designed Slight to be a kitsune for a Pathfinder campaign. That never quite panned out, but I saved the notes to use the character later.
-His fighting style is explicitly non-lethal. His family was murdered in the crossfire of a turf war, and that's a loss he doesn't want to inflict on anyone... even if his foes to make it very tempting. We flavor his swordsmanship as being to disarm foes or protect himself. Maybe strikes them with the pommel, trips them up, things of that nature. Check out some of the on-lethal ways of taking people out in Dishonored 2 for an idea on it! It also just seemed cute to have an animal known for staying tidy wanting to keep their hands clean.
-Slight puts on a daring swashbuckler persona while doing his thieving/vigilante work, but paying attention makes it obvious that there are invisible wounds that have never quite healed. The rare occasions he drops the persona and bravado, you can see his normal brown eyes under the mask. He usually snaps out of it pretty quickly, especially if there is someone in danger.
