Münchhausen was a german noble who was famous for telling stories to his friends at the evenings after hunting trips. The stories were about his various adventures and they were so exaggerated, that they were written down. The most famous example was, that he rested on a canon during a battle in war and as it was shot, he still sat on the flying canon ball and rode on it through the sky unharmed and by doing so, he could spy out their enemies next moves, he then turned arround on his canon ball and flew back to his comrades to tell them the new tidings.
