A direct paint over the scrappy sketch.
I had hoped to have a more proper piece ready by now but times have proven busy, I feel this is one of those scenarios where the sketch is more appealing in a good chunk of ways to the final piece. But there is still some charm here even with the oddities, definitely not one of the greater Sass renditions however. But this wasn't really planned as a piece sketch in the first place so the fact its still kinda neat will do!
Tried to do some baggier work type pants on Sass, hence the boot too, which I initially wanted to do as just black but made red to better contrast against the dark sections of Pal's body rings. I think this is a first of having a boot on an Avali now in my work which I commented in the experiment sketches. There was supposed to be a jacket but it came out very poorly and obfuscated the already rough body proportions making her look EVEN More stiff, I do think her missing it is a neat look not a common sight but I'd definitely have preferred to cut it for more intentional reasons. Shading as always so far is VERY rough, not happy with it even more so than usual here. Did try a new thing sorta with copying and darkening out the back leg for Pal, though about doing the same for the third out of view arm but thought it would be too noisy.
But as I mentioned on the sketches page, the sizing of the two here I think is a relatively good balance, any bigger and ridding looks too silly or uncomfortable, I only really worry about the scaling of like the head and hands and such between the two, something in this ball park I think would do well in general but further explorative tuning will be needed to really settle on something.
The contrast between the two as usual pretty fun, Pal's oOo| Stare compared To Sass' expression is something I conceptually love, tried to detail the lenses a smidge more but nothing too specific to highlight it, struggled to get Sass' eyes looking passable at all with the tiny resolution but the concept is fun!
This does sell me though that future riding pieces once I can confidently do them will be just that much more adorable, there's some novel ideas I wanna try especially in a larger group of character or trio pieces with Leif. All of which should hopefully have something more exciting going on then the awkward but still pretty cute wave hopefully, given I largely recycled it here as nod to the first piece of the concept ages ago. :P

Not sure how I missed this comment :O
Since Pal is one of my main characters (as the account name suggest lol), fully summarizing him would take way more space than is reasonable. So the cliff notes: Pal 5k is fully autonomous in moment to moment operation, which is kind of the whole appeal of robots in the setting. He’s a high-end space engineering unit, with the blue paint marking him as an elite model and the orange striping denoting the engineering specialization (most of his line is orange/yellow).
That means he’s equipped with broader expertise than standard engineering units, things like advanced electronics, programming, robotics, and specialized systems. He’s essentially an all in one chief unit meant to tackle complex, exotic repairs normal variants can’t.
Pal is also a rare case of rampant AI, having slipped the usual memory fugue, impulse controls, and cognitive blockers. Making him a "coherent" runaway agent capable who's socially capable, cognitively growing, and broadly effective, though CIU scaling limitations keeps him roughly comparable to a very smart human. Turning what would normally be a capable unit, still outshined by equally trained humans, into a fair master of his trade. It should be noted that while on paper he is property he's hardly treated as such by Sass and she wouldn't really be able to change that even if she wanted to given how capable he is. (Not that she wants to, they're eachothers best friends and she's one of the few that truly believes em to be fully conscious and sapient.)
His quadruped frame is built for surprisingly fast speed, dynamic stance, heavy loads and hull clambering with his leg graspers, his flat top doubles as cargo space (as visible here :P), and he has three high precision manipulators that can freely rotate around a central ring for tool grasping or other infinitely variety of use. Plus a custom claw arm with an integrated flipout welder/cutter.
Randomly running up and wanting to touch em would probably yield a similar stare to the one seen here, except one of the camera pivots would stay locked onto the poker's head while the others silently follow the poke itself lol.
