Connected with the one-on-questions you had about Nibbles,
https://www.furaffinity.net/view/63775055/
here's what I wrote, in another convo, about Gary in the Japanese dub:
whether for good or ill, Nibbles and Gary were both a lot less androgynous (...) Gary's voice wasn't as high, did not have any speech impediment, and his word choice was specifically "boy / young man" coded.
(...)
"I'm Gary! Gary de Snake."
"And... your last name?"
"De'Snake~!"
> (in Japanese)
"boku wa hebi no GERI da."
"myouji wa?"
"DE SUNEIKU."
(... which still works as a bilingual joke for any Japanese person since elementary school, or middle school at the latest... even if "za" is a much more common way of rendering "the". I'll also note that "de" and "von" are known in Japan as part of Western last names, even if most Japanese couldn't necessarily tell you which countries they're from, or the nobility angle. You might remember Laputa: The Castle in the Sky and/or Nadia: Secret of Blue Water having rather fanciful Western-sounding noble names.)
