Ariel was not having it and she let her superiors know it.

They tried threatening punishment, and even a fucking court-martial, but she didn't back down.

When they returned to orbit, she knew that STEEL would try arresting her for disobedience among anything else they could try sticking on her. She was done with STEEL.

So before the arrest came, she confided in Lucas that she planned to flee to a far away frontier planet and not to come after her. But to her surprise, Lucas wanted to go with her, as did several others of her team.

As for the ones that didn't she put the fear of God in them to keep their mouths shut, at least long enough for them to get away.

Seems it didn't entirely work, because after they stole a spaceship, STEEL was on their tail. Someone talked.

They were shot down near Sol's orbit, but Lucas, being the pilot, managed to crash land safely, somewhere up north in the Nickel Province.

Afterwards, they just picked up the pieces where they could, heard from merchants about numerous former STEEL folk in the Coal Province, and the rest is history.

Many of her crew returned to civilian lives, but Ariel and Lucas took up politics.
