Aoi Hien - Guardian of Boundaries
A five-tailed kitsune, guardian of the delicate boundaries between perceptions, decisions, and truths. She does not guard worlds or portals, for her domain of responsibility is far more fragile and dangerous: moments of choice. Her domain is the Garden of Doubts and the Road of Temptations, a place through which creatures pass, stuck between “yes” and “no,” between fear and determination, between who they were and who they could become. There are no right paths here, only reflections of possible lives. Aoi is the guardian of this garden. She watches, guides, and nudges. Since childhood, she has believed that truth is always one, and that hesitation is a sign of weakness. In her world, there is no “almost” or “somewhere in between.” If a soul lingers too long, Aoi begins to persuade it to make a choice as soon as possible. One path. One destiny. Her vision allows her to see the threads of fate, thin lines stretching from each being into the future. For Aoi, they are the truth, immutable and indisputable. Fate cannot be resisted, only accepted. But one day, a strange soul entered the Garden, unlike any other. Its thread of fate fragmented, branched out, disappeared, and reappeared, leading in several directions at once. It behaved incorrectly, violating the very order that Aoi considered eternal. No future was final. No path was dominant. For the first time in a long time, Aoi had doubts. If fate could be multiple, then what was truth? And did she have the right to force those whose essence lay in the possibility of not choosing at all to choose? From that meeting, the Garden began to change. And with him, so did Aoi herself, the guardian who found herself between two truths for the first time. Her mind was enlightened, and her body gained a “third eye” in the form of two familiars, hybrids of a cat and an owl: Yen (a cold blue left eye) and Sui (fiery red right eye). They are not separate from her; they are her True Vision brought to the outside. This allows her to see more of the history and truth of souls and help guide them, rather than force them to choose. Aoi perceives the world through them as clearly as through her own eyes. After their appearance, she softened towards lost souls, began to listen more to their experiences, feel their emotions, and guide them by giving them choices, even to those who were “in between.”
