Nobody should have to go through that stuff. If I could zap myself back to the past as an adult, I'd give my lil' dingo self the biggest hug before having a sit-down with the shitty PE instructor who just let that stuff happen. The fact that whatever authority figure didn't step in and start the conversation of "everyone has to start somewhere" and "would you like it if someone was shouting the same things at you?" is just criminal
Not to mention you trying to get them involved ultimately resulted in you being the one punished if anything, just for the crime of seeking help and thus becoming a nuisance. Which definitely doesn't cause any kind of self esteem/trust issues or a deeply rooted defense mechanism of wanting to be as appeasing/taking up as little space/being as quiet and out of the way as possible or alternatively acting out and then also getting in trouble for that, as it was the only thing within your power as a kid that could mitigate the bullying/torment.

I was in that situation at school too. I was one of the last to be picked for the team, which was humiliating. I then secretly practiced shooting hoops in the schoolyard in the dark for a while. Once I got the hang of it, I developed a strategy that consisted of no longer running around the court, but simply standing under the basket, catching the balls, and shooting them in. That made me more popular, but I never really liked basketball, and the basketball teacher was not convinced by my strategy either.
