My ex was like this, whenever I drew something for him or buy art for him I paid for with my hard earned money, he would complain and nitpick everything about it. It broke my heart. I don't remember him ever saying thank you to me once, and if he did, it was reluctantly. Sorry for the rant and the wall of text, this piece made me think of my ex and I figured I'd share my experience.
That literally happened to me. _Not_ because they were "ugly", but because I didn't 'listen and do it the way I told you to'. They destroyed my sketchbook in front of the class... and I just stopped drawing from there out. Family lodged an official complaint with the school board, and she was 'talked to'.. buuut not fired. I have no idea wether she behaved better afterwards, but regardless, I had a hangup for 25+ years that kept me from 'wasting supplies' on trying to draw. My skills had gone to junk by the time someone loaned me a tablet to try out, but at least I drew something once more (if only once!), to spite them.
