Hi there!
I'm back at it again, adding way more into a song than necessary! ๐ธ
This is my entry to the "Express Yourself Contest 2026", and while it's admittedly been a little while since I've worked on music โ in large part due to all the livestreaming I was doing last year >~< โ and working on this song brought all of that pent-up creativity back out. There's a lot to talk about in this song, so let's break it down, starting from the beginning!
The song opens up with a harpsichord, a classic favorite of mine that I've had the desire for reignited in me after discovering "Black Diamond" by Stratovarius on New Years when I was playing Fortnite on Twitch during my last livsetream, before my hiatus, that is. I may go back to livestreaming at some point. This inspiration was also hinted at with the inclusion of the guitar outro, but also, having listened to a lot of 80s music thanks to my mother having an all-80s music station on in the living room, I've noticed a lot of electric guitar in weird places, but fitting so well. I wanted to give that a try (but I still don't know how to work with electric guitar >.<).
I suppose the next thing to address would be the deep vocals โ "paws" and later on, "Daymusik". Well... these vocals are indeed me! If you're familiar with my recent song, "pawspawspaws", that song actually uses a simple from "The Fox (What Does It Say)" by Ylvis, specifically when he says "paws", with a bunch of effects on it. While the "paws" in this song was made to sound a tad lower... over the New Year, I was sick. My throat was mainly affected, resulting in me only being able to speak uncomfortably low if I wanted to be audible... "uncomfortable" not because it hurt me or anything, but because it was well out of my usual speaking range, so I had to make the effort to speak that low if I wanted to speak at all. So what did I do about that? Well... what any sane person would have done, I'm sure โ I had a little recording session where I used my newfound bass-range voice to record various lines, pre-drop vocals, etc., that I can go back to and use whenever X3 (I also did rest my voice a bit, don't worry!) These lines were from when I was sick and decided to use that to my advantage!
I have been REALLY getting into Palworld again lately โ various notifications on my phone are Palworld SFX, I have a coffee shaker from Madrinas that's Palworld, still no plushies sadly, but that's the goal eventually. Throughout the song, I've sprinkled in 5 different pal sound effects with different levels of processing, making some of them easier to recognize than others โ cattiva, mimog, foxparks, direhowl, and depresso (roughly in order of processing effects), see if you can point them out X3
Of course, my love for paws is ever-present in my life, so I've put that at the forefront of the lyrics in this song, but also wanting to get that dance music, party vibe, inspired mostly by Timmy Trumpet and Andrew W.K.'s "Party Till We Die", so I tried my best to craft lyrics with that idea in mind.
And, lastly, the main idea behind this song stems from the bass sample(s) used throughout. I've never really been one to use samples/loops in my songs for personal reasons, but in an effort to break out of that habit, I used one here, having just this year downloaded a free sample pack from Ghosthack; when I was listening through it, this bassline really stood out to me, so I decided to use it, and there are three different iterations of it used in this song.
Thanks for reading, if, for some reason, you did read all of that! ^w^

Lyrics:
Paws on the floor
Paws all around
All night long
Get your paws on the ground
Paws on the floor
Paws all around
Dancing all night
With your paws on the ground
