There is historical precedent though. There's a couple of people who would have duels with each other constantly for 17 years, but became friends during that time and the duels were just part of it, to the point that they couldn't bare to get the "decisive victory" in what ended up being the final duel and spent the rest of their lives as friends from what I hear
