February 4th was World Cancer Day, so I invite you to donate to support this important milestone in pancreatic cancer research. ποΈ
If you're struggling with the QR you can find all the information here: https://criscancer.org/barbacid/index.html
As a token of my gratitude, I will be giving away free one-month subscriptions to my Patreon if you send me proof of donation via note.
This post might seem a bit out of place, but for years I've seen my father and uncle fight like champions against this disease. Sadly, my uncle lost his battle in December. I dream of a future where this disease can be treated and no one lose their loved ones to it, and I believe that together we can achieve it.
And to all those who are fighting cancer or have a loved one battling it, I send you a big hug, lots of strength, and I sincerely hope you can overcome it. Pura vida π«

My mom died of Renal Cell cancer in 09 (Kidney)
For pancreatic cancer, a novel RAS inhibitor is being tested in a phase III clinical trial led by Dana-Farberβs Brian Wolpin, MD, MPH, director of the Hale Family Center for Pancreatic Cancer Research at Dana-Farber, and is showing promising early results. RAS inhibitors are providing much needed hope for this difficult-to-treat disease and, through efforts from Dana-Farberβs Center for RAS Therapeutics, also hold potential for breakthroughs in other cancers with RAS mutations.

Timely statement. Unfortunately, the lead singer from 3 Doors Down, Brad Arnold, died today of kidney cancer. It's always a sad thing to find out. Cancer does suck, and it's worth the research to find cures and treat properly.
I'm sorry for the loss of your uncle, and I hope that your father can make it through.

My wife was diagnosed with breast cancer at the end of '21. Watching everything she had to go through between surgery, chemo, radiation, reconstruction surgery, and now had developer diabetes because of the medication she's on. So yeah, anything that can help avoid this for anyone is needed desperately. Fuck Cancer.
My grandma was one of the first survivors of breast cancer, all the way back in the mid 1950s and lived for over FIFTY YEARS afterwards, having dealt with it in her mid 20s and dying at the age of 79 in 2009.
Breast cancer is an absolute cakewalk compared to other cancers these days, but as you just said, still not perfected even after 70 years.

I celebrate and advocate during the month of October, because my grandmother suffered from Breast Cancer and the whole month is about that one, BUT, also because my favorite Game Company, Digital Extremes, makers of my FAVORITE Video Game, Warframe, do an entire charity event during the month of October supported by most of the community!
That said, YES, fuck cancer and all other, CURRENTLY Uncurable illnesses!

Firstly, agreed wholeheartedly, fuck cancer. π

The paradox of cancers are twofold;
1. Our bodies and immune systems kill off most cancers before they get a chance to grow out of control and become a problem. We probably won't know about it unless we tested very frequently. πͺ
2. When normal cells become damaged or mutated, but continue reproducing, and the new damaged cells are not recognised as "faulty enough" by the immune system, or they reproduce too quickly - depending on where in the body this happens and which cells are involved determines the type of cancer, of which there are officially over 100 designations - that is when it is diagnosed as a cancer. π¨ββοΈπ©ΊβοΈπ₯
In light of the above, it is complex and difficult to find specific cures / preventative methods - some techniques may be applicable across different types of cancers, but it is an ongoing challenge to find a consistently effective treatment.
The "easiest" way to enhance resistance to cancers is ensuring a healthy body and a healthy immune system, but even then, it's not perfect. For example, antioxidants to protect cells can only do so much, especially if damage to cells is not caused by oxidation / free radicals. βΉοΈ
Ultimately, it is initiatives like this, which focus on testing, preventing, and curing various cancers, which deserve the utmost support around the world - in the face of staggering challenges, they persist, for the good of humankind (and potentially all life on Earth). π
Thank you for raising support for this initiative. π

Certainly a healthy lifestyle does help a lot but sometimes is like a russian roulette. My uncle had a really healthy lifestyle he was into cyclism, mountain bike, did a lot of sports, was very active and ate very well but the condition was apparently genetical so ... yeah :/ Sometimes life is that cruel I think.
Yes FUCK Cancer! Last halloween while I was having surgery for my prostate cancer..when I was in recovery my wife (who beat cervical cancer 2 years earlier,) got an E-mail from my sister that my brother-in -law had died of pancreatic cancer no one even knew he had!Lifes hard enough without our own bodies turning against us.
I usually promote October as Breast Cancer Awareness Month by getting a drawing of one of my girls wearing pink ( https://www.furaffinity.net/gallery.....ness-Month-Art ). But cancer comes in many different varieties. And pancreatic cancer is just as troublesome as breast cancer. So I'm willing to spread the word by linking this pic via a journal that I will post here >>> https://www.furaffinity.net/journal/11306625/
