panel 203:
'One moment' Garrin answers 'I will move to a secure location'
Garrin Considers Kalez' Vizier as he walks to the nearby hedge garden. Aebin Nethar, Kalez had expected Garrin to kill him (among other expendable assets) and take his place as first acolyte about three years ago now, He had displeased and disappointed his Mistress by sparing the jackal's life and refusing the advancement.
Garrin hadn't expected to live much longer than that, and it seemed to him that Nethar had felt much the same way. The Vizier had become cynical and dejected; his spirit broken. Garrin doubted the man had the heart nor the ability to defy whatever doom Kalez would no doubt grant him.
This borrowed time extended from days to months and then into years. yet in all this time Garrin has noticed little improvement in Nethar's outlook, nor any sign of rebellion.
Garrin pulls out the mirror again, Kalez's face still lurking within it's depth 'I am in a secure location'
Kalez pause for a moment and takes a breath then speaks with a steady emotionless tone 'Undead forces have infiltrated Castle Crym, and have attacked several of my servants.'
Shock renders Garrin momentarily speechless, recovering he asks 'How many infiltrator? how many causalities?' the standard crisis questions calmed him while he collected his thoughts.
'The grounds keeper Ulric and Acolyte Eeyfel were attacked, both drained. Ulric is expected to make a full recovery, Eeyfel is in critical condition and will require magical aid to survive' Kalez seemed cold and distant 'only one enemy was seen, but evidence leads me to believe they're a member of the Legion of Thirsts so they aren't operating alone'
Garrin feels compelled to state the obvious 'Could it be a prelude to invasion? perhaps destroying belgate bridge should be delayed, we may need reinforcements from Ivera if we are plunged into war.'
Kalez considers this then responds with measured words 'very convenient then that such an attack would occur so soon enough after I gave the order that I could reconsider'
Garrin can't help but agree, that would be very convenient 'You suspect the attack is related to my orders?'
'I suspect Via Vardek's hand in all of this' Kalez hisses with malice 'She may even be in league with the undead, I would put no level of treachery past her.'
Garrin shares his mistress' distaste for the ancient diviner.
