Here is my finished image for the 2012 Werewolf Calendar!
The calendar itself goes on sale Sept. 1st, and is full of really awesome art from a bunch of people! You can find out more information on www.werewolfcalendar.com!
The caption I was assigned to illustrate was:
Depending on the geographic region in which a werewolf or werewolf pack may reside, fishing may play an important role in the hunting and social life of the solitary wolf or family unit. In the pacific Northwest the annual salmon run provides the wild werewolf with an abundance of fresh food and easy meals. The wealth of fish is shared with other species including the grizzly and brown bear whom also visit the streams of migrating fish. Due to the sudden overabundance of food, competition is temporarily suspended among species whom are typically competing predatory rivals. Sightings of both werewolf families and other wild predators sharing a stream peacefully in close proximity of one another have been documented. Fish is also often dried by family groups and saved as a reserve for bitter winter months when food is scarce.
(You can see the sketch for the piece over here.)

I agree on the aspect of landscape painting, especially in the media that Blotch uses, watercolor and acrylic. It's easy to make the bold colors and fill in a lot of space, but the attention to the detail he makes gets me every time. This one is definitely one of my fav's. I really need to work on my landscape painting if I ever plan to get close to matching this detail.
Whoops. I think you missed that thrust, friend, try again!
Lovely piece, as usual, though I couldn't help but notice a flaw in the caption you were assigned (so, I'm assuming, not your fault?):
"... the grizzly and brown bear whom also visit the streams of migrating fish."
Somehow, people who sprinkle "whom" in where it's not appropriate catch my eye a lot more than those who miss it where it should be.
Anyway. I say again, lovely piece! The detail of the 'wolves in the background is, as previously mentioned, quite nice indeed.

A few months more and Blotch will be like Albert Bierstadt and paint something like this: http://artscroll.ru/Images/2008/a/A.....adt/000096.jpg
This reminds me of living in Southeast Alaska a few years back. I lived there for 16 years, and I remember the Tlingits Natives teaching us how to fish with those fishing spears.
This picture reminds me so much of my home that I miss so much. *huggles* Thank yew for posting it, and keep up the wonderful work!

Reminds me of my last dig site. Picking through all these damn fish scales and bones because some band of Algonquins a couple thousand years back decided to make a semi-permanent camp... And make my life an artifact processing hell a couple thousand years later... Sooooo many tiny bones :<
I've lived in alaska all my life and this painting brings to life beauty of the northwest of north america in a rather stunning way. I went silve fishining at clear creek near talkeetna about three weeks ago and when i saw this picture it was like i was back there and not in anchorage
well done
well done
This peice is now framed, safe and snug in our living room at home in the UK.
