Drew this to make into a card for the surgeon who fixed my partner's broken ass leg. He and his staff were amazingly kind, tolerated us cancelling RIGHT before surgery (because the hospital fucked everything up.) Hospital dropping the ball delayed surgery that was supposed to happen 1-2 days after the break by A WEEK, then their stupid quote almost made us decide to cancel and have to wait ANOTHER week with him just existing with a broken leg.
He liked it. YAAAAY. Cool surgeon gets a silly little mini poster of a skeleton to match his "Bad to the bone" scrub cap.
I only know how to show appreciation through gift art. I've been through so much bullshit if anyone treats me like a human with basic decency that's the only way I know how to respond.
We were given the run around. Told a cost of $209,393.87 USD for surgery. That's AFTER telling them we're self-pay with no insurance. We stressed that. Multiple times.
Asked for a $52,000 down payment less than 24 hours before surgery. That's like 2.5 years of his income dude we don't just HAVE THAT. Asked for them to check with the financial assistance dept. of whatever. Said they'd put a note on the chart to do it with no down payment.
Called back the next morning with "Your requesthas been denied. Can you do $10,200?" NO.
Figured "We can't pay, it's commit and put him on the line for $209k & medical bankruptcy so no surgery today. Better go find another surgeon that won't charge $209k. Oh boy, The next open slot is in a week. TWO WEEKS with a broken leg. YAAAAAAY"
That's AFTER the ER/Hospital caused us to miss his appointment with the surgeon because of improper discharge instructions (AND splinting his leg with his foot pointing unnaturally too the left to far the first time causing us to go to the ER the 3rd day after the break AND miscommunication by not verbally checking our number. That second ER trip is where we learned the surgeon called an old number on file. Not the one we entered that night.
ER Doc said "Ortho will call you about surgery." So we waited 3-4 days. Then the weekend hit. Still no call. Went back to the ER because his foot started going numb. All of the staff that night were like "who did this splint??? You're supposed to call THE ORTHO not them call you!" "My discharge said otherwise" "Wow. No that's wrong."
Mr. Surgeon got on the phone with us after we cancelled 3 hrs before his surgery slot and said something like:"Who asked you for a down payment for this surgery? That's completely innapropriate. Your leg is broken. Can you get here by X:00?" and squeezed broken leg boy's ass in for surgery later that same day despite us cancelling and all of the fucking chaos of him crying and panicking bc his life will be over via medical bankruptcy or some shit.
That's US Healthcare baybeeee. One medical emergency? Life over. :)
Anyways the final total is like $13,000 USD. So. That's a thing. Thank FUCK it's not that chargemaster ass rate they quoted.
Hoping Dollarfor.org will help.
I JUST fucking finished paying off the last $8,000 ER visit from last February. I hate this country's medical everything.
Quacks, malpractice, & having major errors in anything related to healthcare is my family curse.
