One of Empress Iaret's daughters, Inaya was adopted after her birth family, snobby merchants, rejected her. Iaret took her in and ate her biological folks, making Inaya first her High Priestess and then her daughter. Nicknamed the "Snorb" because of her shape, she's diplomatic like her other mother.

Inaya began life as Inaya Khalid, the youngest of four siblings and heir to the Khalid family fortune. The Khalids were, by and large, relatively unremarkable within Imperium’s historical context. They were, however, uncommonly wealthy. Much of their money had come in through exporting enchanted items and weaponry out of Imperium space, as the quality of such craft was well above that found in many other sectors of the galaxy. They cornered a generous portion of the market and then sat on a considerable nest-egg. Stable wealth, without making excessive waves. It is, in all likelihood, the reason their business practices went unnoticed by imperial auditors.
Inaya was, even as a child, a rather gifted diplomat. However, she was possessed of a uniquely meek and conscionable disposition that did not match that of the rest of her family. Given her status as both the youngest and the “most disappointing” (as quoted by her father in one of his recovered correspondences), she often took the brunt of their emotional abuse. They wanted her to join the family business, as her siblings had, but were constantly frustrated by her lack of ruthlessness as well as her diminishing ability to take advantage of her charismatic nature due to the aforementioned familial troubles. Eventually, the pressure became too much, and Inaya fled on a commercial flight to the colony of Cerulean, wherein she registered herself for the local civic guard.
Her parents, of course, discovered her disappearance, but were distracted at the time by a disruption in shipping caused by an uptick of piracy along the more noted interstellar trade-lanes. They determined that compared to the risk to their financials, the disappearance of a wayward daughter was hardly worth much effort, and so for the first few months the Khalid family remained blissfully unaware of her status.
Upon joining the guard, Inaya met Captain Rex Cerulean, who immediately determined that she had neither the aptitude nor the desire for a physically demanding job such as the civic guard. However, the good Captain was able to determine that Inaya was here to flee something, and thus decided to accept her bid for a civic guard contract while resolving to investigate the specifics. All of his findings would then be relayed to Queen Lazuli, who would in turn bring this to the attention of the Imperium Court.
It was during this time that Inaya drew the eye of Eesha Khepri, one of her fellow recruits. Eesha, daughter to decorated General Henith Khepri of Earth, already possessed something of a reputation for skill in combat and a willingness to put herself in harm’s way to buy time or protect noncombatants. She was, in other words, ideally suited to life as a guard in a way that Inaya (due to her lack of physical acumen) was not. Despite this disparity, the two became close, eventually culminating in the beginning of a romantic relationship. It was then that Eesha learned of the specifics of Inaya’s upbringing…and brought this to the attention of her “cousin,” the Cerulean Court Mage Lyon Yeager-Redburrow.
When the implications of emotional abuse came to light, Lyon reported this to his aunt, the Empress’ Consort Geneva Iaret-Redburrow. She, in turn, discussed the matter with her wife, and Her Imperial Majesty was immediately enamored by Inaya’s boldness, dedication, and appearance. At around this time, the good Captain’s investigations had also led to an investigation of the Khalid family finances, and the discovery of years of embezzlement and cooked books.
It was at around this time, prior to the civic guard acting upon the evidence they were still in the process of collecting, that the Khalid patriarch finally tracked Inaya down to Cerulean and demanded her return. He arrived personally, and a somewhat ugly altercation ensued with Eesha defending her current girlfriend. This was enough to draw the Empress’ ire, and coupled with the mounting evidence of corruption, she decided to act.
Her Imperial Majesty visited Cerulean and spoke with Inaya, whereupon the full breadth of her family’s abuse became known. Given Her Majesty’s track record of disdain for those who poorly treat their family members, she offered Inaya sanctuary from her family. In addition, given Inaya’s disposition, she offered her membership within the priesthood.
During this time, the Imperial Consort visited the Khalid family directly. It was recorded that when confronted by imperial guards, the Khalid family denied all wrongdoing and Inaya was verbally insulted. As she was now a member of the priesthood, such a thing now compounded their crimes. The Consort informed them of the Empress’ displeasure. Their response was to send a correspondence demanding Inaya intervene to prevent law enforcement from seizing their businesses.
The Empress intervened directly at this point, and when that meeting soured, devoured Inaya’s birth parents. Thereafter, she offered Inaya full adoption into the imperial family. Freed now from the constraints of an abusive household and her original parents’ oppressive expectations, Inaya flourished. She quickly rose through the ranks of the priesthood, her devotion and commitment to the values of the empire elevating her to high priesthood. Since then, she has acted as Iaret’s voice across the Imperium. Like her younger sister Kah would one day do as well, Inaya focused her efforts on ensuring that children were properly treated in Imperium space. She would also use her diplomatic skill to dispel conflict in the colonies, ensuring a reduction of violence throughout the sector. She would also help crack down on the corruption of the niveau-riche, as her knowledge of her former family’s business practices made her adept at uncovering similar fraud elsewhere.
