Fera growled angrily. She was surrounded by a group of five tall girls, well, taller than her, anyway. The tallest of whom, had Fera's favorite beanie hat, and was holding it over her head.
The 15 year old, 4'4 wolverine girl bared her sharp canine teeth at the anthro poodle girl. “Give me my hat back!”
“Why?” Missy, the poddle girl asked derisively. “So you can attempt to hide your ugly hair?”
This bullying would happen on a weekly basis for a month. Missy and her group of dog friends, hung outside of their Private school, always waiting for Fera to leave. Missy and her friends were the Queen bees of the school, their parents being CEOs and “rich folk”. Fera's mother wasn't rich, but she did manage to send her to the private school, but that wasn't good enough for Missy. She looked down on her with contempt, and wasn't afraid to show it.
Fera drew her right hand back, and punched Missy squarely in her stomach. The poodle girl coughed and doubled over, dropping the hat.
The other girls gasped. Fera had never threw punches before.
Missy fell to her butt, her legs tucked under her as she held her stomach, trying to catch her breath. Fera stood over her and unsheathed her claws of her right hand. “What's the matter Missy? I thought you were tough?”
Missy whimpered as her face contorted into rage and anger. “You Bitch. I'm gonna tell my Daddy about this! You're done! You're going to be kicked out of school!”
“No she won't.” A cool, calm, voice said.
Missy and Fera looked towards the voice. Fera blushed heavily.
Momo Morden, the taller than Missy cat/zebra girl, stood confidently a few feet away. She had her arms crossed and was looking smug. “You and your... (ahem) group of friends are going to leave Fera alone. Or...” She showed them the screen of her phone. It showed Missy bullying Fera. “I go to principal Ferris and show him all the footage of you bullying Fera.” Momo smirked “What would happen to your Glee club if your “Daddy” found out his Princess was a bad girl?”
Missy stood up on shaky legs. “You... you...”
“I believe the words you're looking for are 'You got a deal, Momo.” Momo interrupted her.
“Fine. She isn't even worth it anymore.” Missy spat out the words. “She isn't worth anything.”
Missy and her group turned on her heals and walked away, but not before Missy stomped on Fera's beanie and dug it into the sidewalk.
Momo walked over to Fera and picked her hat up. She brushed it off and held it towards the small girl. “Are you okay, Fera?”
Fera sniffled and snatched the hat out of Momo's hand. She shoved it on her head. “Yeah. Whatever. I'm fine.” She wasn't trying to be rude to Momo. She just didn't like other people touching her stuff.
“I was going to head over to Wind's Coffee shop for a hot cocoa.” Momo said with a smile, dismissing Fera's behavior. She knew that the wolverine girl had a short temper and was hot headed. She didn't mind. “Wanna come with me?”
Fera huffed and shoved her hands into her coat. She grumbled as she looked down at the ground. “...sure. Whatever...”
The two girls walked the three short blocks from the school to the quaint coffee shop. As they entered the small store, the scent of coffee, sweet spices, baked goods, and all kinds of intoxicating aromas, hit their noses. The shop had 6 tables, and all of them, aside from one, had people sitting at them.
Momo noticed that the shop was in the midst of being decorated for Valentines Day tomorrow. A pink pony, Pinkie Pie, and Wind's wife, was using a ladder as she was hanging white and pink streamers EVERYwhere.
One table had a fennec fox girl sitting with a calico cat, and their young daughter. Momo smiled at them. “Dr. Morghanna! Director Brie!”
The calico cat and fennec looked at Momo and returned her smile.
“Little Momo.” Morghanna waved. “Nice to see you.”
Sam, the fennec fox rolled her eyes at her wife. “How are you, Momo?”
“I'm okay.” She gestured to Fera, whom had suddenly hid behind Momo. “This... uh...” She stopped as she realized that Fera wasn't ready to meet new people. “Well, um,” She smiled at Kitsune,” Hey Kit. Got your juice?”
The three year old smiled and nodded. “Got my juice!” She announced loudly as she sipped on her apple juice.
Fera huffed and walked over to an empty table and sunk into a chair. She crossed her arms and waited for Momo.
Momo sighed. “Sorry. Nice to see you guys. I'll tell Mom you said hi.” She walked over to the counter and smiled at older cat behind it. “Hi Mama.”
The red-haired rag-doll, Wind, smiled at the young girl. “Hello, Momo. Is that Fera over there?”
Momo nodded as she placed money on the counter. “Yeah. She had a tough day. Could we get two extra large hot cocoas and six lemon squares?”
Wind smiled and pushed the money back to Momo. “You don't pay here, Momo. Your Mother has been coming here for 15 years.” She turned and poured two hot cocoas and topped them with whip cream and cherries. She handed them to Momo. “Here, Sweetie. I'll bring your lemon squares to you.”
Momo giggled and took the drinks. She walked over to Fera and placed both drinks on the table. “Here, Fera.”
Fera looked at the drink and sat up a little taller. “...thanks. What do I owe you?” She pulled out her nearly empty coin purse.
Momo sat opposite her and giggled. “Uh, nothing? I don't pay here. Even if I didn't... I asked you here, remember? It's my treat.”
Fera blushed and put her purse away. “...oh...” She huffed and whispered. “... stupid of me...”
The zebra/cat sighed. “Fera, why do your beat yourself up all the time?”
The wolverine grimaced and shrugged. “... I dunno... just do...”
“Come on, Fera. I want to be your friend.” Momo admitted. “Wouldn't it be nice to have a friend? Would it be so bad to open a little?”
“...not used to... talking 'bout 'motions... and stuff...” Fera grumbled as she sipped her drink. “... my... Mom moved around lots... Imma Military brat... Pa left when I was... 4... Mom was a Sargent... Human Resources... bounced around from town to town every couple years... she retired last month... now we... don't move anymore...”
Momo blinked in surprise. This was the most Fera has said to ANYONE since she started at the school last month. “Wow. So, um, why do you beat yourself up all the time?”
“... just do... never had friends...” Fera admitted “...Mom was always busy...”
Wind came over and placed two plates of three lemon squares in front of Momo and Fera. “Here you go girls.” She patted Momo on the head. She looked at Fera and gently stroked her right cheek. “Got a little bit of dirt on your cheek.”
Fera's eyes went wide as she purred quietly. Tears sprung to her eyes as she looked at Wind. “...What...?”
Wind smiled in a motherly way at her. “You had dirt on your cheek.”
Fera curled into a ball and used both hands to pull her Beanie over her eyes. Momo noticed wet spots form on it.
“...Fera?” She asked reaching her hand across the table.
Fera's lip quivered “...gotta go...” She stood up and ran out of the shop.
Momo whimpered. “...Fera...”
