Kha'eshan Bestiary: Weed-Back Villadilus
The Weed-Back Villadilus is an aquatic predator native to the swamps of Southern Eruth. This carnivore has evolved green fur on its back, one that resembles aquatic plants and provides great camouflage in shallow water. While most of the time it hunts fish and waterfowl, it can easily take down much larger and more terrestrial prey.
Its powerful jaws allow it to clamp onto struggling prey, and, much like a crocodile, it can thrash and perform "death rolls" to rip off chunks of flesh from its prey. Its webbed feet and beaver-like tail provide it with excellent propulsion in the water, making it a surprisingly swift hunter.
Locals fear this beast and give it a wide berth, as it has been known to eat people. People approach this beast only on one specific occasion: when teenage boys are ready to perform a ritual to become men. In that case, young warriors go out into the swamps and are tasked with taking down one Villadilus and bringing its hide to the village. This ritual is intended to test their bravery, wisdom, and ability to cooperate, as no sane warrior would dare to take on a beast like that alone. Within its own domain, the Villadilus is close to invincible, especially for inexperienced fighters.
