Near the end of January, I doodled myself touching noses with Sparkster from Rocket Knight Adventures, because while I'd drawn him more than once before, I'd never done the classic fandom move of an artist drawing themselves with their favorite character. I then expanded the image into that of myself on a date with Sparkster, because I was in the mood for some self-indulgence and Valentine's Day was just weeks away. x3
I knew I'd be coming to the date in my punky dress, but for Sparkster, I opted to improve upon the exercise outfit I designed for him in 2024, and give him a more realistic body than I'd drawn him with back then. Once I had the character details down, it then took a bit to figure out a good background. In shading it, I wound up with a very VGA feel to the image even though I was drawing with only 16 colors and exclusively used shades from the EGA's full 6-bit RGB palette. Thus, inspired to try out VGA for real, I decided to add four extra entries to the palette so I could smooth out the background colors, and a fifth so I could have a darker gray to shade with than what 6-bit RGB gives you. x3 It came out surprisingly well!
