The jaesix are a small, bipedal species originally hailing from the moon of Tetsis, around the planet Cradle. Uplifted by the au'shunne as a servitor race, they were freed by their creators and now live across the Local Cluster.
A
Jaesix are six-limbed bipeds averaging around one meter tall. They come in three sexes, respectively male, female, and carrier. All three are required to breed: the male and female produce a gamete, and the carrier bears the child (usually for four standard months). Males tend to stand slightly taller, with more muscular builds; females have slim builds and visible breasts; and carriers are generally shorter, with plush builds.
B
Jaesix were originally uplifted from animals via nanomachines. These nanomachines have since become a natural part of their biology, and are passed genetically from parents to child. They give the jaesix extremely stable health and long lifespans, and have the unusual ability to naturally generate cybernetics for their bearers. These cybernetics are automaticlaly created in response to repeated stress or motion in a jaesix's life to ease these tasks (though they cannot be consciously created by the jaesix themself). For example, a jaesix constantly peering at small electronics may develop an augmetic eye with fine zoom capabilities.
C
The nanomachines the jaesix were initially created with came with several behavior suites, designed to influence a jaesix's biology to fit a particular task. While these are mostly vestigial now, the suites also control the jaesix's natural fur (and to an extent, eye) color. While there are approximately two dozen suites and associated color schemes, the five most common colors are steel gray for "labourers", dusky blue for "janitorial", black and yellow for "maintenance", slate with red stripes for "technicians", and pale green for "agriculture".
Jaesix may also rarely inherit a "glitched" suite, if the nanomachines reproduce incorrectly at conception. While not life-threatening, these jaesix may be slightly less hearty than their peers, and will bear a fur that is a scrambled mix of colors.
D
Jaesix are small and hexapedal, and can move easily on all six limbs. Their small stature, natural curiosity, and knack for mechanics often make them extremely well-suited to mechanical work - especially on starships and stations - and they can commonly be seen all over the Local Cluster.
E
While the three sexes are socially equal, they are numerically uneven: the original animals they were created from were sexually binary, and the au'shunne engineered them to require carriers as a means of reproductive control and stability. The sexes are at a ratio of roughly 3:3:1, with carriers significantly less common than others.
With the imbalance in numbers, jaesix family units tend to vary wildly between individuals. Family units of a male and female are more common than ones with all three, simply by numbers. Because of that, many carriers will gladly surrogate for couples that need the assistance (though this is not mandated or required of them), and there are even professional Creches to bear and raise children for those in situations that can't fit it themselves.
