It's one thing to have your god offer you the possibility of gaining power at the cost of sacrificing a follower; another one is having a follower begging to be sacrificed on a semi-daily basis.
My lamb was never tempted to sacrifice a follower, for both moral and practical reasons, just to get a bit of fervor. But there was this one insistent blue bear called Melatonin that would ask to be sacrificed almost every week. With each rejection, the faith in the cult would wane; it got to the point that my lamb was forced to grant her wish after Melatonin had a child. He wasn't happy about it...
