Fera grumbled as she woke up in her single sized bed in her small bedroom in her small bungalow house, as the sun hit her eyes.
Linkin Park posters plastered the pink walls in an attempt to hide the color.
She threw back her covers, and crawled out of her bed. She pulled off her Pjs and quickly dressed in loose clothing and a brown and yellow hoodie. She pulled on her beanie, and walked out of her room. She walked into the living room, where her mother was reading the newspaper in her bathrobe.
“Mornin', Ma...” Fera grumbled in greeting.
“Good morning, Fera.” Her mother greeted her warmly. “Your pop-tarts are ready on the kitchen counter.”
Fera nodded and walked into the kitchen. She grabbed the toasted pop-tarts, and walked out of the kitchen and to the front door.
“Any plans today?” Her Mother asked before she could open the door.
“...just... uh... gonna hang out at the mall...” Fera answered “...nothing special...”
“Are you going to buy a new beanie? I noticed that the one you have on is full of wholes and dirty.” Her mother asked.
Fera sighed. “...can I have some money for... a new beanie...?”
Her mother folded her paper and set it on the couch next to her. She stood up and walked over to the door, where her purse was hanging on the wall hook. She opened it, and took out her wallet. She counted out some money and handed the bills to Fera. “Here's $100. It should cover lunch, and dinner as well.”
“...dinner...?” Fera repeated as she stuffed the money under her hat.
“I won't be home for dinner.” Her mother answered. “I have a date tonight.” She cleared her throat. “So, um, I won't be home for breakfast either. Hopefully.”
Fera blushed. “...'kay... thanks fer... the money... g-good luck on yer date.... and stuff...”
She bit her pop-tart and ran out the door.
Meanwhile, Momo woke up in her in double-sized four-post bed, designed to look like a princess's castle in her large room of her mother's large McMansion. The house was once designed to accommodate her mothers... growth condition (A/N: See my story “A Likely Story”), but she has since been cured of that.
Momo hopped out of her bed, and walked into her walk-in closet. She decided to wear baggy clothing, as she had noticed that Fera tended to dress that way, and, if she wanted to be her friend, she wanted to help put her at ease.
Once she was dressed, she walked out of her room, and headed down the spiral staircase, and into the front foyer. She crossed the foyer and into the large kitchen/ dinning room, where she not only spotted her mother, Victoria, a zebra at the large table, but her other mother, Chel, a small grey mouse with lavender hair, and also, her father, Gust, a beige male cat with red hair. He must of hopped dimensios (See my other story “Raised by the Rom”) and was clearly visiting for Valentines Day.
“Daddy!” She exclaimed and ran over to him. She leaped into his lap, and hugged his neck tightly.
“Hi-OOF!- Pumpkin.” He greeted/grunted as he caught her and hugged her tightly in return. “How's my little girl?”
She let him go and remained on his lap. “I'm good. What are you doing here?”
“Came to see your Moms and you.” He smiled and pointed at the three 4 dozen rose bouquets of flowers on the kitchen island.
Chel giggled. “What about, you, Momo? Got any plans today? Any Valentine Crushes ask you out?”
Momo shook her head no. “I was just going to head to the mall, maybe, hopefully, run into Fera. You know, she doesn't have any friends...”
Victoria nodded as she sipped her coffee. “That's very sweet of you. Do you need some money?”
“I could give her some gold-” Gust began to say, when Chel giggled.
“We don't USE gold here, Gust.” The mouse chuckled. “Remember?”
Victoria rolled her eyes at her mates shenanigans, and removed her wallet from her purse, which was hanging off the back of her chair. She took some cash from it, and handed it to Momo. “Here's $500.00. Take your – not a crush/date – to lunch and dinner.”
Momo took the money and put it in her wallet, which she stuffed into her hoodie. “Thanks, Mama.” She hugged Gust again. “Are you staying for a few days, Daddy?”
Gust nodded. “Of, course, Pumpkin. Go have fun today, and I'll see you tonight.”
The cat/zebra girl hopped off of her Father's lap and ran out of the kitchen, into the Foyer, and flung open the door. She unpluged her electric scooter, started it, and steered it down the u-shaped driveway, and towards the mall.
Fera sat on a bench outside of her favorite store, Hawt Pawfic (Hot Topic), looking at her newly acquired beanie hat. It was purple and had a white kitten paw print stitched on the front of it. She was hesitant to put it on, since, well, doing so would mean breaking it in. She never liked the week it would take to get used to a new hat...
“Fera?” She heard a voice call to her suddenly.
Her eyes perked up and her heart skipped a beat and started to beat faster as she recognized the voice.
She looked to her right, and spotted Momo. “M-momo?”
Momo walked up to her and stood in front of the wolverine girl. “Hey.”
“...wh-what are you... doin' here?” She mumbled.
“Oh, well, I didn't have any plans today, so I came to the mall, well, in hopes of spending some time with you.” Momo admitted with blush.
Fera gasped. “...ya wanna spend...” she pulled on her new beanie, her old beanie was on the bench next to her, on her head and over her eyes.
“Fera...” Momo sighed, “C'mon, don't hide from me. I want to be your friend. Is that so bad?”
“...you like me...?” The timid girl asked as she lifted her beanie slightly.
“Yes. I like you. Well, I want to like you. Get to know you more.” Momo admitted. She smiled.
“...even tho I ran 'way yesterday...?” Fera asked, lifting her beanie some more.
“You felt... flustered.” Momo shrugged. “I get that. Mama Wind showed you some affection. Unexpectedly, right?”
Fera looked at her feet with a sighed as she gripped the bench tightly. “... yeah... was unexpected... My Ma... well, she loves me... but... never been.... very affectionate, ya' know? Never... knew m'dad...” She sniffled and wiped her nose with her sleeve, “...stupid o' me...”
Momo sat down next to Fera. “Fera. There's nothing wrong with having feelings. Showing your feelings. Especially with me. You don't have to spill all of your feelings to me, but I would like you to not hide from me...”
Fera nodded. “...Kay... I'll try...”
The hybrid-kitten smiled. “Well, My Mama gave me some money for lunch, and, we can always go to the indoor amusement park here at the mall, as well, what do you think?”
Fera perked up at that. “...okay... sounds good...” She fell silent for a second. “...wait just a sec'...” She stood up from the bench and ran over to the flower shop that was s few stores down from where they were. After a few moments, She came running back with her hand behind her back. She walked up to Momo and awkwardly held out a blue flower towards her.
Momo gasped and stood up. “Fera... you bought a flower for me?”
Fera rubbed the back of her head with her free hand. “It's called... a silent p-princess, so...uh... be my v-valentine? or... you know... whatever...”
Momo blushed heavily. “You want me to be your Valentine?”
“...yer always so nice me... helpin' me at school... trying to get... me to talk... and stuff...” Fera blushed as she looked down and at her shoulder. “...always... s-smilin' at me...”
“Do... do you have a crush on me?” Momo asked kindly.
“...ya...” Fera nodded.
Momo took the flower and sniffed it. “It's really pretty. I like it.” She snipped the stem and threaded it into her hair, jest beside her right ear. “Thank you, Fera. That's very sweet of you.”
Fera bit her lower lip. “...so...” She gasped as Momo suddenly pulled her into a tight hug and held her gently.
“I would love to be your Valentine, Fera.” She whispered.
Fera didn't know what to do or how to respond. She hadn't been hugged since she was little. She fought her fight or flight response with ever fiber of her body. She wanted affection, she wanted this feeling. She liked it. She just...
“Momo...” She growled in embarrassment, “...too much... shy... public display...”
Momo let her go and took a step back. “S-sorry, Fera. I just... well, wanted to show how much you mean to me. How much I appreciate you.”
Something click in Fera's brain suddenly. Momo wanted to help her. Be with her. Show her that affection she had never felt. Keep her safe. Make her feel needed. “I... 'precite you too...” She admitted. She took a deep breath and clenched her eyes shut. She took a step forward and peck Momo on the lips with hers.
A brief kiss.
Momo brought her hand to her lips and touched them. “...I... you kissed me...”
“...just wanted to show... how much... I like... you...” Fera blushed and shoved her hands in her hoodie.
“That was very sweet of you, Fera.” She held out her hand. “Want to go get lunch now?”
Fera gingerly placed her hand in Momo's “Can we go to the amusement park first?”
“Sure.” Momo giggled as she lead the way. “I guess we don't want to waste lunch on the roller-coaster.”
