Two of Sister Heidi Henbane's may grandchildren. They are quite the assortment of blended bloodlines.
Garmrth, is a Wulver and Uruk hai with a bit of jötunn in ancestry. Her cousin Elene is Wulver with a human and goblin hybrid father.
Garmrth in spite of her impressive size is a soft city girl who works a comfortable apprenticeship in a butcher shop. She hates being away from the comforts of civilization and is terrified of the Troll Woods and the wild beasts of the Laxaria wilderness. Elene is by contrast a true child of nature. With her Truffle hunting mother and sharp fur trapper father she knows the name and nature of every living thing but couldn’t stand more than a moment in a crowded city marketplace.

"Elene, over here!" Garmrth waved her nervous looking Cousin of the busy sidewalk, "it's so good to see you! Come over here you look lost as a goose!"
Elene was somewhat comforted to see a familiar face in the crowd and trotted over to her cousin. "Hey-o, girl! Good to see you too!" Elene gave her a hug, there was much more of her cousin than last time, Garmrth nearly crushedher breathfromher body. "Oof, your looking... healthy getting enough to eat though the winter?"
"I seem to have grown a bit side to side," Garmrth chuckled, "Shows how good our shop is! Look here I've brought you gelbwurst, liverwurst, and a whole parcel of suet."
"Isn’t this expensive?" Elene said stunned by the portions, "This must be 18 ingot of the stuff!"
"It's nothing really the town folk don't much like gut meat. They only like flesh. I get this nice stuff for nothing."
"Even all this suet?" Elene asked incredulously? "This is more than we can eat, but it would make plenty of soap."
"It takes all day to make that awful lye soap. If want I'll get you some real floweroil soap from the market.Eat the suet, make some proper pudding or pies with it. Suet is so common that the people feed it to jinx birds."
"Well I won't waste it like that," Elene said smirking at how wasteful town life made folk, "Thank'yah much for the gifts."
"Oh what happened to your arm?" Gasped Garmrth noticing the bandage.
"Ramidreju, bit me, nasty little thing, when I was getting firewood. I chewed and spat some carpenter weed on it a wrapped it up. It will be fine. But you need to take this. It's herbs in an elderberry tonic. Aren't you worried about catching plague in such a crowded place? Folk live like ants in a nest here, I worry about you cousin," she obviously found the town more threatening than an animal bite.
"We got the priest doctors for that. Plague don't happen round here, not like I have to worry about you getting gobbled by beasts, or trolls, or witches!" Garmrth protested.
"Well the priests got most of those too, why don't we get out of this mob a cook this hare up?" The goblin girl giggled.

I'm of the Tolkien camp, I don't think they are different species but just alternative kinds of people in a very different place. Tolkien's books are actually full of people with blended ancestry. It's really Hollywood that missed that part of the world's lore.
My explanation of some of the more extreme variations like vampires and werewolves (also cannon Tolkien creatures) is that they came about by more extreme alterations caused by supernatural beings. This still doesn't diminish their core identity as people.
