It is said that the first Azerothian to spy the Dark Portal and live to tell the tale was Sentinel Alaris Goldbranch, one of Thalistra's party. Though he would not survive to see the end of the Horde, his thoughts that day were recorded in his journal, which was released to the public in 20 ADP to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the end of the Second War by his husband. He wrote 'When I first laid eyes upon the Portal my jaw dropped. Even from the distance I was at it's size was readily apparent, as was the steady hum of it's portal, audible even to me. More than that though was what lay around it: a fortified base, with an army that seemed to fill the valley. I remembered the War of the Ancients, how Demons spilled out from Zinn Azshari and the Well of Eternity, and I knew at once that it had returned beneath a tide of green-skinned bodies'. --From "Memories of the First War" by Archmage Wallace Gromswald, Mage Tower Press. Released April 35 ADP.
I plan to start uploading my Worgen AU, "A History of Tal'doren: the Worgen Arrive Early" to Furaffinity in the coming weeks, and I commissioned Emily to draw this scene as a sort of 'cover art' for it. Here we see one of the first scouts to set eyes on the Dark Portal and the army below, and as you can tell he's having a massive "Oh crap" moment.
