The gentleman who ordered this piece had an interesting theme. He had a children's doodle book, with pages partially drawn. The idea was to get kids to use their imaginations to fill in the rest of the page.
He gave the book to diffrent artists at the con to see what they would do....and left it to them to pick which page. Some were harder than others, as they left little room to draw something really good.
I saw some really simple drawings that folks had done, and some more complex...and a few really cute/funny ones!

Lol! I said the same thing at the bottom of the page...!!
And don't feel bad about your art, ever. I bet I'm a lot older than you, and have been drawing a looooong time. I wasn't very good early on, but I kept at it, and got better. Keep striving for greatness! (lord knows I'm still trying to get there...!)

Best I can say about colored pencils is: don't be afraid to press hard! I start out with the darkest color, and go over that with a lighter color, then go over THAT with an even lighter color. It blends and becomes smooth. It gives shape and reflected light to whatever you're drawing. It kills your hand...ouch!
