The crew members of the International Space Station watched helplessly as the enormous feet of the giant, red, insectoid alien terraformed the entire Earth's surface. Every city, mountain, rural area, forest, lake, and anything else in the colossal alien's path vanished in the blink of an eye, replaced by a footprint-shaped crater covered by a vast cloud of dust. This dust, merging with the dust from previous footprints, created a massive amalgam of clouds that blocked the sun from the humans on the ground.
The terrifying aspect lies not only in how a giant destroys its world without showing even a hint of regret or remorse for the lives lost up to that point, but in something far worse for the crew: the giant was heading straight for the space station. It turned out that its trajectory had been treacherous, and they were on a different course, and to make matters worse, the giant, with its thunderous footsteps, was faster.
It must have been due to his exceptionally keen eyesight, because the giant finally noticed a tiny dot floating above the planet he was crushing with his enormous, hard, rough feet. It was so striking that it was curious, even though it was insignificant. The giant approached, inadvertently crushing millions of tiny microbes that were pulverized, their lives abruptly cut short. There was barely time to scream in pity and horror, but those screams fell on deaf and, above all, indifferent ears.
The crew members were consumed by a deep fear of death that seemed increasingly certain. A malicious smile, already present on the face of that greenish, insectoid giant, widened. It stared at the station with genuine curiosity, but one made utterly twisted by the sheer scale and overwhelming difference in size. They watched as the powerful colossus moved its right arm toward them. The enormous hand was comparable to a living continent; the creases of the palm and fingers resembled endless mountain ranges, and the fingerprints on its fleshy, rough fingers were like cannons. They could see the fingerprints in exquisite detail because the giant had them encircled by its index finger and thumb. The small humans felt like insects trapped in what could only be described as a massive press of flesh and bone.
Pharynx was amused by their commotion, but he couldn't help but trust that one spot hovering above what he considered his trampled backyard. So pathetically small, yet conspicuous enough for the Hive's shapeshifting prince to approach not only to observe with his wide, pupil-less, violet eyes, but also to do what he does best when he becomes a force of nature: crush him between his powerful, strong fingers like a fly.
"Hehe, how ridiculous this tiny little turd is."
While he was amused by how fragile and easy it was to destroy everything with his simple fingers and a little force, Pharynx slightly moved one left foot to adjust his imposing position, standing at his full height like a god.
THOOOOOM!
The foot landed on a very densely populated and urbanized area, a massive cracking sound was produced as the ground broke apart, and millions of humans were crushed like paste stuck to the rough sole of the shapeshifter by the weight of billions of tons that fell on them, along with all the infrastructure erected by a civilization that is slowly disappearing due to the indifference and, in turn, dominance of Pharynx.
Paying no attention to what was happening on the ground, since the human lives he was eradicating were of no importance to him, and he certainly didn't value them as individuals with their own feelings and histories, Pharynx abruptly closed his fingers with a powerful squeeze, and the space station vanished from sight. Then, Pharynx scraped his fingers, because even though he had exerted more than enough force to compress the small floating object, it wasn't enough for him, and he wanted that little piece of trash reduced to dust.
“Too easy…”
Pharynx flexed the toes of his left foot intermittently in a casual gesture, still keeping his foot planted on the ground.
