A few months back, towards the end of summer, late at night, I saw something flapping around one of the upstairs hall lights that was too quiet to be a bird before it dove down the stairs, where I figured I'd let it be until morning and not wake anyone up going to investigate.
I didn't see anything in the house the next morning when I left for work, until I came back home after sunset, only to turn on the kitchen light in an otherwise totally dark house to discover our winged visitor was flapping around the kitchen, looking for insects to hunt. One frantic Youtube search later, during which, the bat decided to fly into my room to take a couple laps around the ceiling fan, while I basically had Pacato's reaction.
Once it flew back downstairs, I grabbed a flashlight and managed to lure it back out through the front door without having to resort to a fishing net or chasing it around with a cardboard box.
Thanks to
keihound for this sketch of a spooked Pacato around Halloween, when he's butterballed up for the fall!
