Vershaft is my scifi starship officer character.
His own history broadly mirrors mine in ways, which means he was on the gifted kid to burnout train.
However his culture is very focused on achievement.
His parents eventually sent him to the Accelerated Gmeling Academic/Technical Education program, which is kinda like Battle School, except instead of just military officers, its multidisciplinary. The goal is to churn out hypercompetents in specific fields for his home world. Doctors, researchers, technicians, etc.
He graduated and was allowed to get the green eye biomod (in his species, reserved for grads) but after graduating the stress of that got to him.
AGATE grads tend to be a bit messy, psychologically. The stress gets to you.
So he went off the map working jobs below his caliber while escaping a system that'd wreck him if he stayed too long.
So in real world terms, this is like a John Hopkins surgery grad working as like an RN or CNA.
Like they can do the job but they're not really using their full range.
Dragomir is calling him out on working below his tier.
