Huitzilopochtli (Aztec Mythology)
Creature Type: Divine/Fae
Domain: Fire/War
Temperament: Dangerous
This Creature Resembles the Aztec god Huitzilopochtli the Hummingbird of the South (Or Left?), Or rather in it's lesser form more closely resembles Huitzilopochtli's Hummingbird warrior followers.
Huitzilopochtli is the God of: Fire, The Sun, War, and Human Sacrifice. He is also the Ruler of the other gods and Chief Patron of the Aztec Empire. Huitzilopochtli is not the friendliest of the gods but he is dutybound to pulling the Sun across the sky during the day and through the underworld at night, which requires that he receives Human Sacrifices semi-regularly to keep up his strength so he can keep protecting the earth from being consumed by the Moon and Stars.
In one of his origin stories Huitzilopochtli was born from the Earth Goddess Coatlicue who was pregnant with him, while on the run and trying to avoid an army of her other 200 children, being led by her daughter Coyolxāuhqui who were trying to kill her to prevent this child to be born. First she gave birth to Quetzalcoatl and his twin Xolotl, but her children caught up and cut off her head. It's all ok though cause they immediately regrew as two giant Snakes! Then she gave birth to Huitzilopochtli who came out fully grown and ready for battle wielding his brother the Turquoise Fire serpent Xiuhcoatl as a spiked club and decapitated all 200 of his brothers and sisters and hurled their head into the sky where they turned into the Moon and stars, but while defeated the battle was not over as they were still alive and even angrier now trying to catch up with the sun to consume it and then finish killing their mother.
Huitzilopochtli honors all who show strength and valor in death. Humans who are sacrificed in service to him keeping the Sun moving, and Warriors who die in battle, but also he considers women who died in childbirth also an honorable death cause they died bringing new life into the world. They are rewarded in death by being resurrected as Huitzilopochtli's Hummingbird Warriors and help him protect the sun from gods and monsters who want to steal or destroy it.
