Of course I couldn't do a series of rave-theme portrait of MLP characters without dragging Vinyl and Octavia into the mix, and to have them together in the same entry no less. These two are so much fun to draw because they have such seamless chemistry together despite their night and day differences.
Vinyl Scratch was pretty easy to come up with for her outfit. Since she's already an EDM DJ, she's already intertwined with rave culture, so I was able to play it straight. My main idea was something cool, and reflective of classic EDM culture, so a black bikini with neon blue fishnet as the accent. And just for fun, I splattered her with neon paint to really drive the classic rave style home. There are plenty of directions I could have gone for Vinyl's look, but I think the path I went with was the most fitting, simple, straightforward, and raw rave fashion.
For Octavia, I recycled an old outfit I drew for her a while back. In my original rave portrait, I drew her in a glittery club dress, but here, I decided to lean deeper into the rave culture side of things with a bodysuit instead, something that's a good balance between saucy, and modest, while still be showy enough to vibe along with Vinyl. Octavia may be a classical music pony at heart, but no doubt she'd be willing to humor the flash and vibrancy of the rave, even if just for Vinyl's sake.
I didn't put a whole lot of thought behind the poses for this. Vinyl is classic rave affair yet again. For Octavia, I wanted to depict her having fun, letting loose from the otherwise uptight high society culture she partakes in. I can see rave culture has a nice break from it, and a chance to let out a more wild side of her she keeps hidden.
