Continuing with the anecdotes, around mid February some family friends came to visit and help us with a few things. To keep the story short, the gentleman was a member of the Policia Federal Mexicana, and since he knows I really like police-related items, he gifted me his kepi (if that’s the correct name for the hat), along with some collar insignia and a shoulder rank which, if I’m not mistaken, corresponds to Subinspector.

All of these items were used during his time in the Policia Federal, and he actually served for quite a long period, since he went through all three transitions: from the Policia Federal de Caminos (PFC) to the Policia Federal Preventiva (PFP), then to the Policia Federal (PF), and finally the stage that led to what is now the Guardia Nacional (GN).

Although, technically, the GN is not exactly the same as the PF, since it’s a more complex topic that involves historical and organizational context, as it ultimately functions as a more paramilitary style force with command structures coming from the Mexican Army.

In any case, these are definitely great collector’s pieces, as they represent an important period in Mexico’s recent history something many of us grew up seeing.
