Sjir (generally pronounced something like 'sheer' or even 'jeer.' Might depend on how well you've gotten to know him...
THE HORN AND THE BLUE PATCHES
Kethrix himself was a dragonwrought kobold, meaning that he was afforded higher dignities in his warren and had a slightly improved physical prowess. Sjir on the other hand is a simple grey kobold in service to Kethrix. At least, he was a simple grey kobold. Knowing that a dragonwrought kobold has 'the blood of a dragon,' Kethrix sought to give Sjir exactly that. Except... all documented dragonwrought kobolds get their powers when a dragon blesses their egg, or because they have draconic blood somewhere in their family tree and it just happens to manifest in another kobold down the line. Sjir had neither of those things, but Kethrix had dragon blood. Why not just... feed him that blood? At first, nothing happened. Sjir didn't even gain minor draconic gifts from Kethrix's ichoric libations... up until Sjir smashed his horn one day. The shock and stress and pain of the experience threw the little lizard into something of a shocked tantrum where he let his magic and mind lash out at the world. By the end of it, he found an extra knack at the back of his mind--psionic powers, much like Kethrix's. Through plenty of trial and error, the kobold gained some control of his newfound power, ultimately using it to levitate the shards of his broken horn roughly in place of where they used to be. His scales have been slowly turning blue and his flesh purple since that day, as well.
SJIR'S GETUP
Sjir's signature 'wizard's poncho' came about when Sjir saw a wizard in and antiquated robe and pointy hat. Thinking that those would look great on him and earn him the respect of spellcasters everywhere, Sjir posed the question to Kethrix of whether or not he could get a set. Within minutes Kethrix had sent messages to friends and allies who would know more about tailors and tailoring than the loincloth-wearing dragon had a reason to, and hours later a strike team of intrepid clothiers was at the dragon's den to fashion something for Sjir. The most expensive fabrics were used and the currency of choice was platinum--not gold. Sjir marvelled at his new wizard robe, but ultimately had to pass out shortly after. Dragon and kobold hadn't slept for over a day by the time it was complete. Ever dutiful though, Sjir was up long before Kethrix was to perform his daily routines--during which he discovered how terrible a robe was for his biology! His claws and hunch in particular made the thing pretty uncomfortable. When Kethrix awoke, he found Sjir wearing less than half the fabric he'd bought. The dragon shrugged and said it looked good on him.
THE KOBOLD-DRAGON SITUATION
Sjir and Kethrix share something of a... maybe not-quite-healthy relationship. They both fully trust and depend on one another, but there's a bit more to the little detail of why they stick together in the first place. On the surface it's because Kethrix is a dragon and Sjir is a kobold, and the two species are known for working together. That's... partly true! The only problem with that theory is that Kethrix wasn't always a dragon. There are no stories of him from before he was a fully adult-sized dragon, and while kobolds aren't exactly known for literacy and record-keeping, if a dragon appears out of nowhere they'll instinctively know something is up--like most other intelligent creatures would. And yet, Sjir insisted that his warren should throw their lot in with Kethrix. They refused. He kept insisting. They threw him out instead.
What formed between the Sapphire 'Dragon' and the warren-less kobold was a frankly parasitic relationship: every great deed that Kethrix performs, every time he wins the adoration of someone, or someone stops by to pay him tribute, Sjir tells himself 'of course he's a real dragon!' Every time Sjir all but reads Kethrix's mind and does something before he realises he needs or wants it done, Kethrix tells himself, 'of course I'm a real dragon, I have a kobold!' But they both know that he isn't.
