Once upon a time, in the remote forests of Shenmen grew a bountiful grove of cedars, teeming with animal life. One day, mortal hunters bagan using fire to clear the land. The destruction, death, fire and ash of the burning grove took form, manifesting as a spirit of the land, a yaoguai. Filled with rage at such destruction it began hunting down mortals driving them away from the charred remains of the grove, and for decades it remained a cursed area that no demon hunters or exorcists managed to reclaim.
Once upon a time, in the remote forests of Shenmen a young grove of cedars began growing out of the fertile ashes left behind after a devastating forest fire. The anger and hatred made flesh slowly began to understand that from the ashes life could regrow, in death there is life. From a feral elemental of pure anger, it changed as the contemplation of this cycle taught him that everything is part of a primordial and divine cycle. From rage and hatred grew peace and wanderlust.
Once upon a time, in the remote forests of Shenmen a yaoguai of cedar and ashes grew curious of the rest of the world. Taking the name of Ruilin -"Auspicious Grove"- they began their journey to better understand the world, mortals, and cultivate their chi into something and someone that could foster growth and regrowth all around them. Hidden among the mortal residents of a small village known as Willowshore, Ruilin would soon find themselves drawn into even more complex cycles, carrying with them the blessings and curse of fire and ash.
This is the token of my Yaoguai Oracle of Ashes, Ruilin, who was my character for a Pathifnder adventure (Seasons of Ghosts) that I recently ended and survived all the way through !
