Yeah, about as effective as my own alarm clock. Eventually my alarm clock stopped beeping altogether, so I switched to my iPhone, which is actually just as loud and has more effective sounds. Monotone beeps don't work. For regular alarms, I use one with multiple notes, and for abnormal wake-up times I have a duck quacking. An asleep person does not expect duck quacks in their room. Well, not MOST asleep people.

ironically, monotone beepings at strange intervals seems to really be effective because it bothers the mind some when it thinks there's gonna be a certain rhythm when there's not.
