Tidal Pool Exploration with Zimmer
Zimmer held up the seashell. "This little guy here, The round shell with the small flower looking star in the middle, This is a sand dollar. It's not something you can purchase things with. But back when Sand dollars were discovered in the 1800's, the Sailors thought they looked a lot like small flat coins. Hence the name Sand dollar. They're pretty neat little shells. Sand dollars are also usually eaten by sea stars, crabs and other various sea life. "
Zimmer picks up another shell and inspects it. "Also, always remember, some of these shells, they're homes for other sea life, and belong to other sea creatures. So make sure that the shells don't have anyone living in them. You wouldn't like someone pick up your home with you in it would you? If the shells are empty and don't have anyone living in them, you can collect them and they make neat jewelry or windchimes. "
Zimmer smiles a bit, while looking into the tidal pool. "Sometimes when the tidal pools are like this, you can see a whole bunch of the animals who live in this place. Like Mr. Tentacles over there. That's a Red Octopus. He has to be careful of the seagulls and birds that may want to make him a snack, But Mr. Tentacles, He has a secret, He can change his color, like an underwater chameleon. He uses the camouflage to protect himself from those that may want to hurt or eat him. He blends into the surroundings and will even hide inside old bottles or big shells. One day, He might even be bigger than the size he is now."
Zimmer looks closer at the tidal pool and touches some of the seaweed. "But you also want to be careful with tidal pools, sometimes Jellyfish get washed up in the currents, even teeny tiny ones. Not only do they sometimes end up stranded on the beach, but sometimes they end up in tidal pools. Eventually when the tides come back in, the jelly fish can make it back to their ocean home safely. But sometimes, they aren't so lucky and some people get hurt. Even if you find a jelly fish on the beach, never pick them up, there are 2,000 Species of jellyfish out there. But some of the prettiest ones. Are actually the most venomous, and some of them, you don't always see their tentacles or ribbons on. Some of their ribbons that sting and inject venom, Can reach up to over 20feet long. So be careful. They may look neat, but try to research a bit on the jellyfish so that you can tell if a jellyfish is safe or not. Jellyfish stings are no joke to laugh at. They hurt pretty bad. I wouldn't ever want stung by one."
Zimmer grabs their bucket of shells and gets up. They look at you. "Oh, and one last thing, before I head back out. Sea shells, even when you leave the ocean, You can still hear the ocean inside the seashells if you hold them close to your ear. Here."
Zimmer hands you a sea shell. "Now, You'll always have a piece of the ocean with you, no matter where you go."
Zimmer Hops over each tidal pool happily and giggles, Til they get to the beach sand, then they run up to the beach fence to their Mo-ped. Placing the bucket of shells into the back and putting their helmet on, starting up the little vehicle. They wave at you from the distance.
